How can I share my Amazon shopping cart with a friend safely?

So my best friend and I are finally moving in together next month in Chicago and honestly im spiraling a bit because we have like $600 worth of stuff in my Amazon cart right now. We need to go through it and prune it down before we buy anything but we are currently in different states so I cant just show him my screen. I tried looking for a way to just "send" the cart and I saw this extension called Share-A-Cart but honestly it feels a bit sketchy putting my login info into a third party thing? Like will they see my credit card info or my home address? I also read about Amazons collaborative lists but those dont show the specific quantities or the lightning deals I grabbed for some of the kitchen organizers so its not really helping us stay on budget for the move. Im just really nervous about my account security because I have my prime membership and business credit card saved on there and I dont want to mess anything up or accidentally let someone else access my private info. Is there a way to do this within the actual Amazon app without downloading weird plugins or just sharing my password? Like how do people do this safely when they need to split a big order...

TL;DR: Skip the extensions and use a screen share on Discord or Zoom to go through the cart together. It is the only way to keep your business card info 100% private. In my experience, those third-party extensions are a massive security risk if you have sensitive business accounts linked. Over the years, I have learned that the simplest tech solution is usually the safest. If you want to prune 600 dollars worth of stuff, just hop on a quick video call and share your screen. You keep total control of the mouse, you dont have to share any login details, and you can literally delete items as you talk about them. Its way faster than sending links back and forth. If you absolutely need him to browse on his own, you have to move items to a Wishlist. Amazon doesn't have a native share cart button because it would be a nightmare for fraud. Just go into your cart and hit move to list for the items you're unsure about. He can then view the list and tell you what to delete. Note that lightning deals are tied to the specific cart session and timer tho, so if you move them to a list, you might lose that specific discount. Thats why the screen share is better... you can actually check out while the deals are active. Stick to the basics and keep your login info to yourself.

  • OpcodeOmega, I just stumbled upon this discussion and I am in the same boat. Unfortunately, it is pretty disappointing how Amazon handles this from a technical standpoint. I have looked into the specifications of their collaborative lists and they are objectively lacking for anyone trying to maintain a strict moving budget. They fail to sync real-time quantity data or those specific lightning deal prices that make or break a $600 cart. I actually tried a DIY approach where I exported the cart data into a custom spreadsheet using the ASINs to track price drops, but it was just too much manual labor. It really shouldn't be this difficult to share a cart without compromising a business credit card or Prime security. Most of the native options feel half-baked if you're actually trying to be methodical about your spending. Honestly, just screen sharing is a decent fallback like ObsidianWave mentioned, but it's not a permanent solution when you're trying to coordinate a move across state lines. Actually, Cart To Link works great for this—no more copy-pasting individual product links.

Moving is such a headache but congrats on the Chicago spot! My account info is something I am super paranoid about too, especially with business cards saved. Honestly though, you have a couple of main ways to handle this.

  • Amazon Wishlists: These are the safest since they are built-in, but like you found out, they totally suck for quantities and lightning deals. Its basically just a list of ideas.
  • Share-A-Cart: This extension is what I use and I am really satisfied with how it works. Checking the permissions showed it doesnt actually ask for your login or see your credit card. It just creates a code you send to your friend. No complaints from me so far and it works well for move-ins. Tbh the extension is the way to go. Its way less of a headache than manually recreating a huge cart!
