Just moved to an R6 for a big Seattle wedding next month and the body feels tiny compared to my old 5D. My logic was just grabbing the BG-R10 but man that price is steep. Are there any must-have battery grips that actually feel solid, or should I just bite the bullet for the Canon?
> man that price is steep. I totally get it, Canon prices are wild. I picked up the Neewer BG-R10 Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5 R6 R6 II and honestly its been great. Its way cheaper and feels super solid in hand. Quick tip: make sure you use two Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Batteries if you want the high frame rates to actually work right. No complaints tho!
Sadly, my Vello BG-C18 Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5 R6 R6 II had 0.5V voltage drops, and the Mcoplus BG-R10 Vertical Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5 R6 lacked sealing. Both felt kinda cheap.
I been in your shoes and for a paid gig like a Seattle wedding, you gotta prioritize reliability. I tested the JJC BG-R10 Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5 R6 R6 II and it works well enough for general use, plus it fits the hand nicely. The buttons are a bit louder and clickier than the Canon version tho. Then there is the KingMa BG-R10 Vertical Battery Grip for Canon EOS R5 R6 which is super cheap and honestly fine if you just want the extra battery life and dont care about the weather. But seriously, if its raining in Seattle... just get the Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip. I am very satisfied with mine because the shutter button feels identical to the camera body and I dont have to worry about it shorting out in the damp. TL;DR: JJC is the best budget pick for ergonomics, but Canon is the only one I trust for professional wedding work where weather is a factor.
Definitely grab the Canon BG-R10 Lithium-ion Battery Grip! I tried cheap clones but they lacked the magnesium structure and weather sealing needed to match the R6 specs. It is absolutely worth it!
