honestly i am so lost right now. i just bought a canon r8 and realized it doesnt even have a flash built in which is crazy for how much it cost. i tried looking online but there are a million options and i dont know what the difference between all these numbers is or if they even fit the r series mount. im trying to take photos of my sisters baby shower in two weeks in a dark restaurant and i really dont want to mess it up.

  • i only have about 150 bucks
  • needs to be super simple i dont want a huge manual
  • i need it by next friday

which one is actually the best for a total beginner? i feel so stupid asking this...

I've tried many flashes over the years and the Godox TT685II-C TTL Flash for Canon is definitely your best bet for the R8. It fits the budget and works great. My main tip: point the flash head at the ceiling. Bouncing the light makes everyone look way better in dark rooms. Keep it on TTL mode so you dont have to mess with settings manually during the party... it really simplifies things.

The Godox TT350C Mini TTL Flash for Canon is a solid, budget-friendly pick for the R8. Since that camera is small, a bigger flash can feel really unbalanced.

  • Very simple TTL interface
  • Uses standard AA batteries
  • Fits the R8 hot shoe natively I would also grab Panasonic Eneloop Rechargeable AA Batteries so you arent buying disposables. It stays well under your 150 limit and works fine for indoor events.

I tracked specs and found Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II Wireless Flash Speedlite for Canon hits a 60m guide number. It handled my first dark venue project without overheating tho.

  • Affordable
  • TTL support

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.
