just got my sigma fp and im so hyped to start using it for wedding gigs here in san diego! the tiny size is great but the screen is just impossible in the sun. i read that the atomos ninja v is the gold standard for recording raw but then people online were saying the portkeys monitors are way better for sunlight visibility and camera control. im really confused which way to go since i need to buy something before my first shoot next month.

  • budget around $400-500
  • gotta be bright for outdoor use
  • light weight is a must
  • easy battery setup

which one would you guys pick for a handheld rig?

> light weight is a must In my experience, keeping that Sigma fp agile is the top priority. I've tested several high-brightness options and the Desview R6 UHB 5.5 Inch 2800nits Touchscreen Monitor really stands out for the price. It offers 2800 nits for visibility and weighs next to nothing. For power, using the Sony NP-F550 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery is the most practical way to keep your setup balanced during a long San Diego wedding day.

> the tiny size is great but the screen is just impossible in the sun. To add to the point above: if you are doing wedding gigs in San Diego, that glare is gonna be your biggest enemy! I have been using the Feelworld LUT6 6 Inch 2600nit Ultra Bright Touch Screen on my secondary rig and it is absolutely fantastic for the price. 2600 nits is incredibly bright, way better than most standard screens in this bracket! Quick tip for the fp: stick with Sony NPF550 LSeries Batteries for the monitor. They keep the weight down so your wrists dont die during a long ceremony. Those bigger 970 batteries make the fp way too top-heavy. Before I go further tho, are you planning to record CinemaDNG internally to an SSD or do you actually want the monitor to handle the recording? This really impacts your battery needs and overall rig weight.

Ive been very satisfied using the Portkeys LH5P II 5.5 Inch 2200 Nit Touchscreen Monitor for high-glare outdoor environments. The 2200 nit brightness is superior for weddings where you cant control the lighting. Unless you definitely need raw recording, choosing this over the Atomos Ninja V 5 Inch 4K Recording Monitor saves significant weight on a handheld rig. Always use high-capacity Sony NP-F970 Rechargeable Battery Pack units for full-day reliability.
