I just dropped a small fortune on this Q3 and honestly its kind of driving me nuts how slippery the body is. I moved over from a Fuji setup where I had a much better grip feel but this thing is like a wet bar of soap and I am terrified im gonna drop it while walking around London for my sisters wedding next month. I started looking into thumb grips because everyone says they help with the one handed shooting but im just getting more annoyed the more I read because nobody seems to agree on what actually works.
I saw the official Leica thumb support online but its like 200 bucks which feels like a total rip off after already spending 6 grand on the body itself. Plus I read a few threads on some other site saying it actually makes the rear dial harder to reach or it sits too flush against the back? Then there is the Match Technical CSEP-10 or whatever its called but the shipping time to me is gonna be way too long and I keep hearing that the paint doesnt actually match the Q3 finish perfectly. Some people say its more of a matte black while the Q3 has that slight sheen to it and if im spending over a hundred bucks on a piece of brass it better look like it belongs there.
Im really looking for something that hits these points:
I looked at the Haoge one too since it is cheap but some reviews say it wobbles in the hot shoe and I really dont want to scratch the finish on a brand new camera. Is there some middle ground I am missing here? Or is the official one actually worth the insane price tag and I should just suck it up and buy it? I just want to be able to hold the damn thing without feeling like it is going to slide out of my hand every time I try to take a quick snap...
I disagree about the official support being a rip off. Im satisfied with the Leica Thumb Support Q3 Black because it matches perfectly. The Haoge TH-Q3B Thumb Grip honestly lacks precision.
