I just got my first M6 for a trip to Italy and honestly I am so scared of dropping it. I want a leather strap that looks old-fashioned but I have no idea what is actually good or safe.

Sorry if this is a dumb question I just really dont know where to start...

Congrats on the M6. It is a masterpiece but definitely needs a secure strap for a trip like that. You really do not need to spend 200 dollars on a fancy boutique brand just to get that vintage look and safety. Honestly, I have seen too many people overpay for leather that isnt even that high quality. You must be careful with the metal split rings on budget straps tho. They can easily scratch the M6 top plate if there are no leather protectors or bumpers. I would suggest looking at these specific options that wont break the bank:

  • Gordy's Camera Straps Adjustable Neck Strap Leather
  • These are basically indestructible and very affordable.
  • Ona The Lima Camera Strap Antique Cognac Leather
  • Very sturdy for the price, especially if you catch a sale online.
  • Grau Design Leather Camera Strap Vintage Brown
  • Minimalist and looks the part without the Leica tax. Make sure to check if the strap includes lug protectors. If it doesnt, you might want to consider buying little leather O-rings separately. It is a small price to pay to keep your camera from getting Leica bite scratches near the lugs. I would suggest staying away from the super thin cord straps for long trips... they tend to dig into your neck after a few hours of walking. Stick with something simple and functional and you will be fine. Just check the connections every morning before you head out.

Agreed. I've snapped cheap rings before, so I use the MegaGear Sierra Series Genuine Leather Shoulder Strap now. It uses reinforced 15mm top-grain leather, staying secure without the insane boutique markup.
