Is the huge Dell XPS sale on social media a scam?

Ive been running XPS laptops for my video editing side gig for years so I know the specs and pricing pretty well. I keep seeing these sponsored ads on my feed for an XPS 15 with an OLED screen for like $299 which is just insane since they usually retail for way over $2k. I really need to replace my old 9500 before my next project starts here in Seattle in two weeks but the URL looks super sketchy.

A few red flags:

  • the domain name is some random string
  • the countdown timer resets every time I refresh

Is this some weird clearance thing or is it just a total scam?

That is 100% a scam, ngl. I have been sourcing laptops for production work for over a decade and there is zero chance an OLED XPS sells for $299. Even a broken unit for spare parts would cost more than that. In my experience, these social media ads are just phishing schemes that target people looking for a deal... they basically just want your card info. If you are trying to be budget-conscious for your Seattle project, here is how I usually handle it:

  • Check the official outlet for certified refurbished units
  • Look for open-box deals at major tech retailers
  • Use this site to find verified secondary market listings I have tried many ways to save money over the years, but buying from a random URL with a countdown timer always ends badly. You dont want to be stuck without a machine when your project starts, so stick to the pros.
