Im losing my mind trying to pick a Tamron zoom for my R5 before my Yellowstone trip. I read the 150-600mm G2 is decent but then found posts saying the AF pulses on the adapter.
My budget is $1500 so is there any Tamron lens that actually works for wildlife without the headache?

Honestly, i've been using Tamron glass on my Canon bodies for years and generally im pretty satisfied with how it performs. If youre worried about that AF pulsing on the R5, it definitely happens with the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 for Canon EF during high speed bursts, though the reach for Yellowstone is basically unbeatable for the price. Here is how they stack up from my experience:
- Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 for Canon EF: Massive reach which you need for wolves or bears. The AF is okay for stills, but yeah, it can hunt or pulse a bit on the adapter if the light isnt perfect.
- Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD for Canon EF: Much lighter and the AF feels snappier to me on the R5. You lose that extra 200mm though which hurts for wildlife. I'd grab the 150-600 G2 and just update the firmware. It works well enough that I dont have many complaints for a sub-$1500 setup.
