Best Tamron lens for Sony E-mount street photography?

Which Tamron E-mount lens is best for street photography if I need to stay low-profile? I've shot street on primes for years but I'm heading to Tokyo next month and want a single Tamron zoom. The 28-75 G2 seems great but maybe too bulky, and the 20-40 f2.8 is compact but is the reach too limiting?

The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 weighs 540g and is 117.6mm long, while the Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD is just 365g and 86.5mm. That difference seems small on paper but after walking 15km through Shinjuku, the 28-75 G2 definitely feels heavy. As for the reach, yeah, 40mm is limiting if you want tight street portraits. My workaround was assigning a custom button to APS-C crop mode. It turns the 40mm into a 60mm equivalent instantly. You're gonna lose some megapixels, but it works fine if you arent printing massive. Plus, the 20-40 is about $700 new, which saves you $200 over the G2.

I just got back from Japan and honestly the Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD was a total lifesaver in those narrow alleys! It fits right in my jacket pocket which is amazing for staying low-profile.
