Heading to Zion next week and my old wide prime just died so I need a Sigma replacement for my a7IV fast. Budget is $1100. Ive been shooting for years but never used Sigma glass and I'm torn between the 14-24mm or the 24-70 art series. Which one actually holds up for landscapes without nasty corner softness?

Ive been shooting with the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E for ages and honestly, its my go-to for big views. I dragged mine through the Narrows last year and was super satisfied with how sharp the corners stayed even at f/2.8.

  • try finding it used to save $200
  • check for open-box deals
  • sharpness is better than the 24-70 at the wide end You really cant beat the value for landscape work.

Actually, you might want to consider the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E to stay under that $1100 limit. I would suggest being careful with the 14-24mm for a few reasons:

  • The bulbous front glass means you cant use normal screw-on filters for landscape work.
  • It is way heavier to hike with all day in Zion.
  • The 24-70 is much more versatile for tight canyon shots. It is super sharp across the frame... just watch out for dust on older used copies.

Late to the party but make sure to think about the weight before you head to Zion. I would suggest being careful with the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E because that bulbous front glass is a magnet for dust. The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E is a safer bet for general versatility, but the Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary for Sony E is lighter for hiking... just watch the corners on it tho.
