So Ive been shooting on the Sony Alpha system for like six years now and honestly I thought I had my kit dialed in perfectly but I just upgraded to the A7SIII and paired it with the 24-70mm GM II and my old Ronin-S is just... not handling it well at all. It keeps vibrating when I do low angle pans and I think the motors are just getting tired or maybe the weight distribution is weird with the new glass even though the lens is technically lighter than the mark 1. Its driving me nuts because I have a wedding shoot in Lake Tahoe in two weeks and I really dont want to be fighting my gear the whole time. I need something that actually communicates well with the Sony body because I am sick of having to use a physical cable for the shutter and focus pull especially when I am trying to balance things quickly.
Ive been looking at the DJI RS3 Pro and the Zhiyun Crane 4 but I keep hearing mixed things about the software side of things for Sony users specifically. Some people say the Bluetooth shutter is laggy on the newer Alpha firmware? I basically need something that can handle a full cage plus a SmallHD monitor if I decide to mount it on the handle or the cold shoe.
Here is what I am looking for:
Is the RS3 Mini enough or am I gonna regret not going for the full Pro version? I really want something that feels seamless with the Sony ecosystem because Ive been a loyal user for so long but the stabilization jitter I am getting right now is killing my workflow. I am open to any brands really as long as the build quality is there and it doesn't weigh a ton because my wrists are already shot from years of handheld work... what are you guys using for your Alphas lately?
I would suggest avoiding the Mini with that heavy lens and cage combo, it might struggle. You should probably consider these instead:
Agree with @Reply #1 - good point! The Mini is unfortunately not as good as expected when you add a cage. I have had issues with the Bluetooth shutter lag on my A7SIII lately too, its frustrating. To stay under your $700 limit:
> I really want something that feels seamless with the Sony ecosystem Just saw this. Stick with DJI. Their integration with Sonys Bluetooth stack is the most reliable right now, and youll get more bang for your buck regarding motor longevity.
