Just grabbed an A7IV for this wedding shoot in Tahoe next week and Im honestly so stoked to start filming! Im currently torn between the DJI RS 3 and the Zhiyun Crane 4 but my budget is capped at $550.

Which one actually gives the smoothest stabilization for the Sony Alpha bodies specifically?

Like someone mentioned, weight is a major factor during those long ceremonies. I did a destination shoot last year and honestly, I'm so happy I stuck with a reliable, lighter setup. It hasn't failed me yet.

^ This. Also, in my experience, the Zhiyun Weebill 3S Handheld Gimbal is a total tank for the A7IV. I've used it for dozens of ceremonies and it never skips a beat.

  • Built-in fill light for those dark reception corners.
  • Sling handle makes 10-hour days way easier on the wrists.
  • Better price point than the bigger rigs. It just feels more reliable when you're under pressure, honestly.

I brought my A7IV to a mountain wedding last year and honestly, having the right gimbal saved my back during that 10-hour day. The DJI RS 3 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer is what I usually grab because the setup is just so fast. Those automatic axis locks are a huge deal when you're jumping between the ceremony and the reception and dont want to rebalance constantly. Heres my take on the two:

  • DJI RS 3: The Bluetooth shutter control for Sony is flawless and it fits right in your budget.
  • Zhiyun Crane 4 Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer: It has built-in balance lights which are cool, but it feels way heavier after a few hours of filming. The Crane 4 is a beast if you use heavy lenses, but for a standard wedding setup, the RS 3 is plenty. It just works better with the Alpha software in my experience.
