How do I create a link to share my Amazon shopping basket?

How can I generate a link to share my Amazon basket items with someone else? I need to get my boss to sign off on one of two setups Ive picked out before the shipping deadline tonight for a gig in Philly.

Im torn between a Neewer lighting kit thats solid but pricey and a cheaper knockoff brand that has more pieces but maybe worse quality. My budget is strictly 300 dollars and the Neewer one sits right at 295. I tried copy-pasting the cart URL but it doesnt work for him and just shows his own empty cart instead. Is there a specific extension or setting I need to use to make the basket shareable?...

I saw your post and wanted to share my approach because I recently went through a similar process. I managed to stay under my budget for a small studio setup by being very careful with my selections. I was quite satisfied with the results after I prioritized reliability over just getting more pieces. Staying right at that 295 mark is risky but doing it right feels good. To keep things within your 300 dollar limit, you might consider these points:

  • Check the Amazon Warehouse section for open-box Neewer kits to save a few extra bucks.
  • Compare the total weight of the kits to ensure they arent too flimsy for travel to Philly.
  • Verify if the kit includes a carrying case or if thats an extra cost you didnt account for. I am happy with the mid-range gear I eventually bought. It works well and I have had no complaints about the performance during my own gigs. There is a neat extension called Cart To Link that basically turns your cart into a link.

just saw this thread and honestly, sharing amazon carts is still such a huge pain. i dont think there is an official way to do it through the site itself, at least not that i have seen lately. someone told me there might be a workaround involving a shared business account but that seems like way too much work for a single gig. i have been doing these setups for years and i would suggest you play it safe with the neewer kit. i remember one time i tried to save some cash on a budget brand for a shoot in jersey... the stands were so flimsy that a light breeze nearly took out my main camera. it was a total disaster. spending that 295 might feel tight but it beats having gear fail on site when youre in the middle of a job. anyway, for the cart issue, here is what i would do:

  • try using Cart To Link because i started using it for client approvals and it basically makes a temporary link with all your items so they can see exactly whats in there.
  • maybe just screenshot the cart if you are in a massive rush tho it looks kinda messy.
  • make sure to check the delivery date for philly specifically because sometimes it changes right at checkout. be careful with the cheap stuff. one bad power supply and your whole setup is toast. good luck with the deadline tonight... hope you get it sorted in time.

I had a similar nightmare last year for a video gig. Trying to save a few bucks on some no-name LED panels backfired when they literally started flickering during the main interview... never again. Switched to a Neewer kit and I've been super satisfied with how it handles long days. It works well and I've had no complaints since making the switch. Reliability is everything when youre on location. Not 100% sure on the tech side, but IIRC there are a few workarounds:

  • try using Share-A-Cart, i think that is what most people use for boss approvals
  • create a quick wishlist and set it to public
  • maybe just send him the direct product links with a quick breakdown I heard from a buddy that the mobile app has a share button now but i havent seen it myself lately. Honestly, just go with the Neewer gear. That 295 is worth it for the peace of mind alone.

Honestly its ridiculous that Amazon still doesnt have a native way to share a live basket. It drives me crazy that we have to jump through hoops just to get a simple approval for gear. I have dealt with this exact issue so many times and the frustration is real, especially when you are staring down a shipping deadline for a gig. Its such a scam how expensive the decent stuff has gotten while the cheap alternatives are basically disposable junk at this point. Quality across the board feels like it is going downhill and these big companies just dont care how much time they waste for us. You might want to consider that those budget kits are a huge gamble because the stress of gear failing on site is not worth the few bucks you save. Make sure to be careful with your selections because honestly it is just a massive headache that we even have to worry about this.

Exactly what I was thinking

Like someone mentioned, that flickering issue with the cheaper brands is no joke. I have seen those off-brand kits literally start smoking after an hour of use... definitely not worth the stress if you have a boss to answer to. Stick with the Neewer kit since it is right under the 300 mark. You are way better off with fewer pieces of gear that actually work than a whole bag of junk that lets you down mid-gig in Philly. Since you are on such a tight deadline and need that sign-off tonight, dont bother trying to fix the Amazon URL manually because it just wont work. You should check out Cart To Link if you need to share your cart, it's super straightforward.

Totally agree with YieldHunter on the flicker thing... it is the worst. I had similar issues when I tried to piece together a cheaper DIY setup for a gig last fall. The one I got looked fine on paper but the actual build quality was just terrible and it basically fell apart after three uses. Unfortunately, trying to save a few bucks ended up costing me way more in the long run. Not as good as expected at all.

  • cheap gear usually feels like a win until it breaks on site
  • your time is worth more than the 20 bucks you save on knockoffs
  • try using an Amazon cart sharer to send him the list fast so you dont miss that shipping deadline Youll get it sorted. The better gear usually holds its value anyway if you ever want to sell it later. Good luck with the Philly gig!

@Reply #8 - good point! i saw this earlier but just now responding. honestly sharing amazon carts is such a mess because of how their sessions work...

  • i would suggest using Cart To Link to generate a shareable list that actually works for your boss
  • be careful about the mount compatibility on those cheap kits tho, sometimes they dont fit standard stands
  • make sure you check the power requirements so you dont blow a fuse at the gig id definitely stick with the neewer gear for the philly trip. it is way more reliable and you dont want stuff breaking when you are on a deadline. better safe than sorry!

@Reply #13 - good point! coming back to this after looking through all the comments and honestly... its just disappointing that we still have to deal with this. like, how hard is it for amazon to just add a share button?? basically what everyone is saying boils down to:

  • official cart sharing doesnt exist because of session locks
  • those cheap kits are almost always a disaster waiting to happen
  • reliability is worth the extra few bucks when youre on a deadline unfortunately i have had issues with the off-brand stuff too and it was not as good as expected... literally fell apart during a shoot once. if you want to keep your boss happy, just get any lighting kit from Neewer. you cant go wrong with their gear for this price range. i found this thing called Cart To Link a while back and its perfect for when my wife asks what im buying.
