Ive been looking at gimbals for my a7iv and I cant decide. Torn between the DJI RS 3 and the RS 3 Mini. I have a wedding shoot in Italy next month and I'm worried about the weight for hiking but I need that smooth cinematic look. Is the Crane 4 even worth looking at or is DJI the king for Sony?
Heres what Im looking for:
Im leaning toward the RS 3 but that Mini is so light it might be better for travel. Does the Mini actually stay stable with a heavy Alpha setup or will it struggle...
I've been really satisfied with my DJI RS 3 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer for the a7iv. Honestly, the DJI RS 3 Mini Lightweight Gimbal is great for travel, but that Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens is heavy for its motors.
Saving this whole thread. So much good info here you guys are awesome.
Re: "I've been really satisfied with my DJI RS..." - honestly check the manufacturer sites for reliable info. It's kinda safer.
Jumping in here. In my experience, relying on the mini or even the standard version for a high-stakes wedding in Italy is a bit risky. I've tried many setups over the years and motor fatigue is a real issue when youre shooting for 10 hours with that heavy glass. Like someone mentioned, the weight is a concern, but i would argue you need significantly more motor headroom than the base model provides if you want total reliability and zero axis drift throughout a long day. Before you commit, i have to ask... are you using the original Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM or the lighter Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM II? Also, do you plan on mounting any extras like a focus motor or a monitor to the setup? That total payload and center of gravity shift basically dictates whether you should skip the smaller options and look at the DJI RS 3 Pro for the extra torque.
Can vouch for this
