Im finally heading to Japan next month and I'm stressing a bit about my gear setup. I'm shooting on a Sony A7IV with the 24-70mm GM II which isnt huge but it definitely needs a stable base for long exposures. I've narrowed it down to the Peak Design Carbon Fiber one or maybe the Ulanzi Zero Y. The PD is obviously the classic choice but its so pricey... then there's the Ulanzi which is way cheaper but is it gonna hold up in the wind? My budget is roughly $500 max and it has to fit inside my carry-on bag.
I'm leaning toward the PD for the warranty but the Ulanzi seems like a better value. Which one works better for the Sony Alpha body size?
> its so pricey Like someone mentioned, the PD cost is steep. In my experience, Sirui AM-225 Carbon Fiber Tripod is way stiffer for long exposures than the Ulanzi, plus it stays well under your budget.
I hauled the Peak Design Travel Tripod Carbon Fiber around Osaka. It fits my A7IV well and slides into bags easier than the Ulanzi COMAN Zero Y, tho the price is higher.
Stumbled upon this late. Before you buy anything, are you planning on hitting the coast or staying in the cities? Wind makes a huge difference for that lens setup. I would suggest the Leofoto LX-225CT+EB-36 Carbon Fiber Tripod as a solid middle ground for your budget. Just be careful with the center column... these models tend to get shaky so dont extend it fully with a heavy lens.
