I just picked up a ZV-E10 for a trip to Tokyo in like three weeks and I'm honestly terrified of scratching it or dropping it. I've been looking at cages because I want to mount a mic and maybe a side handle later but I'm getting so overwhelmed with the options. Like, I saw the SmallRig one is basically the gold standard but then some people on Reddit were saying the older version makes it hard to open the battery door if you have fat fingers or something? And then there is the Tilta one which looks cool but I dont know if it fits the same accessories or if it's overkill for a beginner.
My logic was that I should get the cage first so I can grip it better but then I started worrying about the screen. I saw some tempered glass protectors on Amazon that have decent reviews but then a couple people said it makes the flip screen harder to close properly because of the extra thickness. Does it actually rub against the body when you flip it shut? I have about $80 left in my budget for accessories after buying the body and the kit lens so I really dont want to waste money on stuff that doesnt actually fit together perfectly. Is there like a specific combo of cage and glass that definitely works without blocking the ports or the hinge? I'm mostly worried about the screen hinge being delicate and I'm just overthinking every little scratch...

The SmallRig 3538B Cage for Sony ZV-E10 is the gold standard for a reason. In my experience, they fixed those battery door clearance issues in the B revision, so you wont have trouble swapping cards or batteries mid-shoot. It adds just enough grip without making the camera bulky. Regarding the screen, the rubbing issue is real if you buy generic thick glass. I suggest the ULBTER Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Sony ZV-E10 0.3mm 9H Hardness because it stays under that 0.33mm threshold. Anything thicker might put pressure on the articulated hinge when you close it face-in. Quick tip: always clean the screen with an air blower first to avoid trapping micro-dust. Over the years, I've found that even a tiny spec under the glass can cause a bubble that eventually cracks the protector. Both of these should fit your budget perfectly...

Ive been very satisfied with the cheaper Ulanzi R063 Camera Cage for Sony ZV-E10 to save some cash. What specific microphone and handle are you planning to use for Tokyo?
