Ive been shooting with the X100V for two years now and it is easily my favorite piece of gear but Im hitting a wall. Im heading to Japan next month for 3 weeks and realized my current setup is kinda lacking for 12-hour days on my feet. My logic was always to keep it tiny but the battery life is a joke so I need a better way to carry spares that isnt just loose in my pocket. Also considering a thumb grip vs a small hand grip because my hand cramps after a while. I have about $200 to spend on bits and pieces. Does a hood actually help with flare or am I just buying it for the vibes? Just want to stay mobile without it being a hassle...

Just saw this and had to jump in because I spent three weeks in Kyoto with the same camera and learned the hard way! Honestly a thumb grip is the way to go if you want to keep that tiny rangefinder feel. I use the Lensmate Fujifilm X100V Thumb Grip and it makes one-handed shooting so much more stable, totally stopped my hand cramps. For the battery nightmare, you gotta get a dedicated charger. I love the Nitecore FX3 Dual Slot USB Travel Charger because it lets me top up my Fujifilm NP-W126S Li-Ion Battery using a power bank while I am on the subway. Ngl, the hood is like 80 percent vibes but if you want weather sealing you need that Fujifilm AR-X100 Adapter Ring anyway to fit a protective filter. It definitely saved my sensor during a sudden downpour in Osaka! Stay light and have an amazing time!

Japan involves a ton of walking so keeping things light is key. From my experience, these are pretty solid ways to fix your issues:

Re: "Dude I am totally feeling your pain right..." - unfortunately I am in the exact same boat and it has been incredibly frustrating trying to get this sorted. Despite my experience with the system, I have been dealing with these exact same issues for months and still cant find a setup that feels truly reliable for long-term travel. Every solution I have tested so far has been a disappointment or simply doesnt address the core stability and power problems tho. It is honestly so discouraging because I want to rely on this gear, but I am still stuck without a functional answer. Still havent found anything that actually works as intended...

Dude I am totally feeling your pain right now!! I have been obsessing over my own Japan trip packing list for weeks and the X100V is giving me such a headache when it comes to the power situation. I absolutely love this camera but the battery life is just abysmal for a full day of wandering... it makes me so nervous about missing shots in the middle of a cool neighborhood!! The struggle is real. I get those exact same hand cramps too! It is so frustrating because you want to keep it compact but my hand just starts locking up after like two hours of heavy shooting. Honestly I am torn between a few different grip styles myself because I hate the idea of making it look bulky but I need to be able to actually hold the thing without pain. It is scary thinking about dropping it because my fingers are too tired to grip it properly. Quick question though to narrow it down... are you planning on shooting a lot of video while you are over there or is it strictly for photos? That makes a massive difference in how I am looking at the power problem. Also, do you strictly need to stay under that $200 mark for everything combined or are you willing to go a bit higher if it means the gear lasts forever? I am trying to be super cautious with my spending too because those yen exchange rates are no joke right now!!
