I recently picked up a Fujifilm X-T4 and am loving the camera so far. I'd like to add a flash to my kit for some portrait and event photography. I'm looking for something powerful and versatile that will work well with the Fujifilm system.

What flash would you recommend for Fujifilm X cameras? I'd like something with good power, fast recycle times, and wireless control if possible. TTL metering capability with the Fujifilm bodies is a must. Bonus points for a good quality diffuser or bounce card attachment.

What are your suggestions? Godox, Nissin, something else? Let me know what has worked well for you!

Reliability is the main thing to look for. If your gear overheats or misses a sync during an event, you're basically toast. I always look for something with a solid build that can handle a bit of a beating in a gear bag.

  • Metal hot shoe is a must
  • Fast recycle times for burst shots
  • Simple menu system Actually reminds me of this one corporate gig I did back in 2019. The venue had these weird neon lights that kept flickering and messing with my shutter sync. I spent half the night trying to find a ladder to see if I could unscrew some of the bulbs, but the building manager caught me and thought I was trying to steal the fixtures. Had to explain I was just a stressed photographer. We ended up getting coffee later tho, nice guy. Anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there.

Been shooting Fuji since the X-Pro1 days and I've gone through my fair share of lighting gear over the years. If you want something that really matches the X-T4 without being top-heavy, the Nissin i60A for Fujifilm is my go-to. I've used it for tons of events and it's super reliable for its size. Pair it with the Nissin Air 10s Commander and you've got a killer wireless setup that stays out of your way. Honestly though, if you have the budget and want the absolute best recycle times out there, the Profoto A10 AirTTL Fujifilm is the one to beat. Its expensive as hell but it never misses a shot during fast-paced portraits and the light quality from the round head is just better, imo. I'd suggest checking out the Strobist blog or even the FujiLove community site... they have some deep dives into TTL timing and technical specs that really helped me when I was starting out. Let me know if you run into issues with the high speed sync settings because Fuji handles that a bit differently than Nikon or Canon sometimes.

For Fujifilm cameras, I highly recommended the Godox flashes. Such as Godox V1 and V1 Pro.
