I recently got my hands on the amazing DJI Mini 4 Pro and I'm super excited to start capturing some stunning aerial footage. However, I want to make sure I'm using the best MicroSD card to get the most out of this little beast. I've heard that not all SD cards are created equal when it comes to drones.

So, I'm turning to you guys for some advice. What's the best MicroSD card for the DJI Mini 4 Pro in terms of speed, reliability, and overall performance? I'd really appreciate your recommendations!

Building on the earlier suggestion, those V30 specs are definitely the baseline for peace of mind. I've been flying for a long time and I'm very satisfied with how my current setup handles the high bitrate of the Mini 4 Pro. No complaints so far, honestly. I tend to be a bit more conservative with my storage habits for safety reasons. Here is what I've learned through my own experience:

  • I prefer using several smaller cards rather than one giant one. If I lose the drone or have a rare card failure, I dont lose the entire day's worth of work.
  • Consistency is more important than raw peak speed. I've had cards in the past that were fast but overheated, whereas my current ones stay stable even during long 4K sessions.
  • Formatting in the drone every single time before I take off has basically eliminated any file errors for me. It's been a very reliable way to work and makes the whole experience much more enjoyable when you aren't worried about your footage.

Ive been flying since the early Phantom days and honestly, im pretty satisfied with how far card tech has come. I learned the hard way years ago that trying to save a few bucks on storage is a recipe for disaster when youre shooting high bitrate 4K. Nothing hurts more than seeing a corrupted file message after a perfect sunset flight. Here are some things i have learned to avoid over the years:

  • Stay away from those dirt-cheap cards on auction sites because counterfeits are everywhere and they will fail mid-write
  • Dont use old cards you found in a drawer from years ago even if they look okay
  • Never skip the V30 speed rating just to save money, it is just not worth the risk I have had zero issues since I stopped being cheap with my media. Better to be safe than lose your footage while youre out in the field...

Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.

Re: "Ive been flying since the early Phantom days..." - man, i totally feel that. i remember the stress of those old cards failing mid-flight and losing a whole days work. absolute nightmare fuel. im actually not totally sure if everyone needs the absolute top-tier specs though. i mean the mini 4 pro tops out around 200mbps which is only like 25 megabytes per second. most standard v30 rated cards handle that easily but ive heard some people mention weird thermal issues during long 4k60 sessions.

  • i think v30 is the floor but anything higher might just be diminishing returns.
  • someone told me certain high-capacity cards run hotter in these small drone bodies, though i havent seen the hard data on that myself.
  • iirc the write speed on the drone itself has a ceiling anyway so buying the fastest thing available might just be a waste of cash. not 100% sure about the exact thermal throttling points for the card slot but its something to think about. honestly i've been using my same mid-tier cards for ages and they havent let me down yet.
