My trusty old Ronin S finally started crapping out on me today with these weird micro-jitters in the tilt axis and I have a huge luxury home walkthrough shoot this coming Tuesday. Ive been using Sony mirrorless forever but never really kept up with the newer gimbal tech since my old setup just worked until now. I really need something that can handle my A7SIII with the 16-35mm GM lens because that glass is heavy and the balance is always tricky.
Should I just grab an RS3 Pro or is the standard RS3 enough for that payload? Or is Zhiyun actually good now...
Go with the DJI RS 3 Pro 3-axis Gimbal Stabilizer. Standard RS3 might struggle balancing that front-heavy 16-35mm glass so you dont want to risk it.
> Should I just grab an RS3 Pro or is the standard RS3 enough for that payload? Or is Zhiyun actually good now... Tbh the standard RS3 is a bit of a letdown for front-heavy setups like yours. I tried it with that 16-35mm lens and the tilt motor just struggled too much... it was super frustrating. If you want something that actually holds up, skip the base model entirely. Regarding Zhiyun, the Zhiyun Crane 4 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer has the power you need, but the software experience is unfortunately still a mess. It feels clunky compared to the DJI ecosystem. I’d actually look at the newer DJI RS 4 Gimbal Stabilizer instead. It has improved motor torque over the RS3, but honestly, that glass is heavy enough that balancing will still be a chore. Avoid the Zhiyun Weebill 3S Gimbal too, it’s way too small for your kit. The RS4 series is basically your only real choice if you want it to actually work by Tuesday.
^ This. Also, you seriously need to check out the DJI RS 4 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer! I was in a total panic last month when my old rig died right before a massive mansion shoot, and honestly, switching to this was a life-changer. The Teflon-coated arms are a total dream for balancing that chunky 16-35mm GM glass because everything just slides into place without any sticking! It is so fantastic not having to fight the gimbal every time I swap lenses. Its super reliable and wont fail you mid-shoot like the old tech used to do.
