What's the best SD card for a Sony A7IV that won't give me that buffer full error when I'm shooting 4K 60fps? I have a wedding gig in two weeks in Seattle and I'm seriously freaking out because I don't want the camera to freeze up mid-ceremony.

I looked at the Sony Tough G cards because everyone says they are the gold standard, but man they are expensive. Then I saw some SanDisk Extreme Pro V90s that are cheaper but some people on Reddit said they have major QC issues and fail which makes me super nervous. My budget is around $150 for two cards. Do I really need V90 or can I get away with V60 for 4K? I'm so confused about the ratings...

To add to the point above: you might want to consider what codec you are actually using before dropping big money. If you are planning to shoot 4K 60p in All-Intra (XAVC S-I), the camera literally wont let you record without a V90 card. But if you stick to XAVC S or HS, a good V60 is plenty and wont kill your wallet. I have seen way too many people get burned by fake cards or bad batches, so I would suggest these:

  • ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V60 Gold 128GB is basically the industry secret for reliability.
  • Angelbird AV Pro SD MK2 V60 128GB is built like a tank and usually fits that $150 budget for two.
  • If you really need V90, look at Sabrent Rocket SDXC UHS-II V90 128GB tho it might push your budget a bit. Just be careful with the SanDisk ones lately, their QC has been kinda spotty tbh. I would trust the ProGrade or Angelbird ones for a wedding every single time. Dont forget to test them at home before you head to Seattle... nothing worse than a card error during the kiss!

Seriously, just get the Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB V90 UHS-II! They are amazing and have been rock solid for my gigs. Fast enough for everything and totally reliable!
