I have a huge graduation shoot for my cousin and his friends next month in Chicago and I'm honestly panicking about my gear. Im shooting on an EOS R with the adapter and I need that creamy bokeh but my budget is strictly under $1100 used. Im torn between the Sigma 85mm 1.4 Art and the 105mm 1.4 Art. The 105 is a beast but I heard its insanely heavy to carry around all day for outdoor shots? But then the 85 is more classic but maybe less wow factor... I just dont want to regret spending the money and having a sore back. Which one actually looks better for full body shots on a Canon?

Just catching up on this but have you looked at the 135mm? In my experience, the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art actually hits that sweet spot for full body shots because of the background compression.

  • Resolving power is higher than the 85mm at f/1.8.
  • It weighs about 500g less than that 105mm brick. Used prices are usually around 800 bucks so it'll fit your budget perfectly.

I would suggest focusing on the weight factor before committing. Carrying the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art around Chicago all day is gonna be rough on your back. The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art is a much more practical choice. Its lighter and easier to handle for full body shots while staying well under your budget used. Just make sure to test the adapter balance first.

Honestly, just grab any prime from the Sigma Art line. Theyre super reliable and usually fit your budget used while giving you that pro look you need for those shots.
