My Nikon D850 keeps freezing up during bursts and it is driving me absolutely insane. I missed a perfect shot of a hawk yesterday because the buffer just wouldnt clear and now I am scrambling because I have a big trip to Yellowstone next Friday. I really need to upgrade my SD cards like yesterday.
I am torn between:
The Sony is honestly pushing my budget since I dont want to spend over $100 but if it actually fixes the lag I might just bite the bullet. Is the Sony really that much better for Nikon bodies or am I just overthinking it?
Re: "> The Sony is honestly pushing my budget..."
Man, the D850 is such a beast but those 45MP RAW files are absolutely massive. I had the exact same freezing issue when I first started out. Tbh the SanDisk you mentioned is probably the UHS-I version which just cant keep up with high-speed bursts. I have been using the Sony SF-G Tough 128GB UHS-II V90 for a while now and I am incredibly satisfied with it. Here is why it works well:
> The Sony is honestly pushing my budget Look at Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB UHS-II V90. My data shows it matches Sonys 300MB/s write speeds for less cash. It is the most cost-effective way to clear that buffer.
Just wanted to say thanks for everyone chiming in. Super helpful discussion.
Wait, if youre hitting that buffer wall on a D850, you might want to look at Lexar or Delkin. I switched over a while back after some lag issues with older SanDisk cards and the speed jump was pretty obvious. If you cant justify the Sony price tag, these are solid alternatives that wont fail you in Yellowstone.
