I recently purchased the new Nikon Z9 and want to make sure I'm using the optimal memory cards for maximum performance. The camera has dual card slots that support CFexpress Type B and XQD cards.
I'm looking for cards with fast read/write speeds to keep up with the Z9's high-speed shooting and 8K video. Reliability and proven compatibility with the Z9 are also critical.
What specific CFexpress Type B and XQD memory card models do you recommend for the Nikon Z9 based on speed, reliability and real-world experience? Thanks!

Lexar is solid but ngl, I have been really satisfied with the Sabrent 1TB Rocket CFexpress Type B Memory Card. It is usually way cheaper than Sony or ProGrade and handles my Z9's 8K video perfectly. No complaints at all after using it for six months... If you want something with a killer warranty, the Delkin Devices 512GB POWER CFexpress Type B Memory Card is another great shout. It is basically the best value for money if you need high sustained write speeds for those long bursts. Honestly dont even look at XQD cards anymore tho. They are basically a bottleneck for a camera this fast. Stick with the newer Type B stuff to actually get what you paid for.
Building on the earlier suggestion, the Sabrent is a decent value but you really gotta be careful with sustained write speeds for 8K video. A lot of cards claim high speeds but then they throttle once they get hot... especially in the Z9. I would suggest checking out the ProGrade Digital 650GB CFexpress Type B Cobalt if you want zero risks. It uses pSLC memory which is way more reliable for heavy video work than the cheaper cards. If thats too pricey, the Angelbird 512GB AV PRO CFexpress B SE is also a beast for the money. Just make sure to check the sustained speed specs, not just the peak burst speed, because thats what actually matters when the camera is chugging through data.
100% agree
