Which external thumb grips improve handling on a Leica Q2?

Im taking my Q2 to Rome next week and honestly Im terrified of dropping it because the body is so slick. I looked at the Match Technical one but some reviews say it gets in the way of the dial, while others swear by the official Leica grip even though it looks really small. Which one is actually better for handling?

Saw this earlier but just getting to it now. I've been shooting Leica for 15 years and the IDS Works Foldable Thumb Rest for Leica Q2 is the most clever bit of kit I've found. Unlike the fixed ones, it folds so you can actually reach the thumbwheel easily.

  • CNC machined aluminum
  • Tension-adjustable hinge
  • Zero interference with buttons Its about $110, but the clearance it gives your thumb is honestly a lifesaver.

Just catching up on this thread. If you are looking for pure reliability, the material science behind these grips matters more than people think. I generally suggest looking into the Match Technical lineup. They typically use solid brass which offers much better durability and a specific weight that balances the lens-heavy Q2 better than lightweight alloys. Technical points to keep in mind:

  • Brass construction helps prevent marring of the hot shoe over time
  • Friction coefficients vary between painted and anodized finishes
  • Alignment accuracy is crucial to avoid putting lateral pressure on the electronic contacts Like someone mentioned, the official Leica options are small, but their fitment is mathematically perfect for the accessory shoe. If you want the best grip-to-weight ratio without compromising the frame, just stick with any of the brass designs from a reputable brand. They wont wiggle loose after a few days of walking around Rome.
