Finally pulled the trigger on an M11 after years of shooting with bulky Nikon setups and man I am so hyped but also kinda terrified lol. I thought my transition to rangefinders would be seamless but the ergonomics are a whole different beast than what I am used to. I am headed to Tokyo next Tuesday for a street photography trip and realize the body is way slicker than I anticipated. I have like 250 bucks left in my budget for some gear. Is a thumb grip actually worth the hype or should I be looking at a half case or maybe just a specific strap? Seriously whats the most essential accessory for a new Leica owner so I dont drop this thing in the middle of Shibuya?
Grab the Haoge HG-M11 Hand Grip for Leica M11 because it adds amazing mechanical stability for a fraction of the OEM price. Love the built-in Arca-Swiss dovetail, it is basically essential!
> Is a thumb grip actually worth the hype Honestly, in my experience, it is the only way to get a secure hold on a digital M. The body is just too slick without it. Skip the half case and get the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX. It makes one-handed street shooting way more stable. Use the leftover cash for a Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap Black and you wont worry about dropping it in Tokyo.
To add to the point above: honestly you gotta prioritize security if youre hitting the streets in Shibuya! I was terrified of the Leica slide when I first switched from my heavy DSLR. Since you have 250 left, you can actually get a few things that make a massive difference in handling.
I love this for crowded areas because it is basically impossible to drop. The magnetic clip is genius and it is super cheap compared to other Leica gear.
This is the pick if you want that classic look. The leather feels amazing and it only gets better as it ages. It is way more stylish than the PD stuff.
Tbh just grab this with your leftover cash. It fits perfectly and keeps that back glass mint for resale. Ngl a wrist strap is way better than a half case for street stuff because it keeps the camera in your hand and ready to fire. Have an amazing time in Tokyo!
