Best leather half case recommendations for Leica Q3 owners?

So I finally pulled the trigger on a Q3 and it gets here tomorrow but I am panicking a little bit because I'm leaving for a two week trip to Tokyo on Friday and I realize I have nothing to protect this thing. I dont want to just throw it in my bag and scratch the bottom plate on day one. I've been looking at cases and I'm honestly torn. I saw the official Leica leather protector but then I read some reviews saying the battery flap on it is kind of annoying and doesnt stay shut well? Then I looked at the Oberwerth stuff because everyone raves about it but it's so expensive and I'm worried about the tilt screen. My logic was if I'm spending this much on a camera I should get the best but will the Oberwerth actually let the screen tilt out all the way? I saw one guy on a forum say it catches on the leather edge. Then there is Lim's but I've never seen one in person. I need something that has a built in grip because the Q3 is kinda slippery honestly. Budget isn't a huge deal but I'd like to stay under $250 if possible since I just dropped six grand on the camera lol. Does anyone know a shop in the US that ships fast or has a solid recommendation that wont block the screen? I'm worried I'll buy something and it wont get here before my flight...

I would suggest being really careful with the official Leica one honestly, I had the Q2 version and the battery flap was always hanging open which just drove me nuts. Last year I switched over to the Lim's Design Genuine Leather Camera Half Case for Leica Q3 and it has been a total tank. I actually dropped my camera once on a cobblestone street in Rome and that aluminum base plate saved the bottom of the body from getting crushed. You might want to consider how the leather sits near the hinges tho... make sure it doesn't have thick leather right around the screen. Some of those boutique brands look great but then you cant actually tilt the screen out without it binding up. The Lim's has a metal bottom that lets you swap batteries without taking the case off, which is a lifesaver in Tokyo. Check B&H, they usually ship overnight.

To add to the point above: do you use a tripod? My TP Original Leather Half Case for Leica Q3 worked well for my Tokyo trip.

  • Screen tilts fine
  • Affordable

Congrats on the Q3, man! Late to the party here but I totally feel your pain about the scramble before a big trip. Honestly, it is just ridiculous how much we have to stress over basic protection after dropping six grand on a body. The whole boutique accessory market feels like a total scam sometimes. I've been shooting with these for years and it drives me crazy how quality seems to be diving while the price tags keep climbing. It's like these companies just dont care about the user experience once they've got your money. I am finally satisfied with my own setup after a lot of trial and error, but the process was honestly a nightmare. Heres what's been bothering me lately about the whole premium case scene:

  • Overpriced leather that feels like cheap plastic
  • Shipping times that make it impossible to plan a trip
  • Designs that clearly didnt actually test the tilt screen properly
  • Having to pay extra for a basic grip that shouldve been built in Its just exhausting, ngl. You want to focus on the trip to Tokyo but instead you're refreshing tracking numbers for a piece of leather. I've got no complaints now that I'm settled, but getting here shouldnt be this hard. Quality feels like its going downhill across the board while they just keep hiking prices because of the name. Best of luck getting something in time tho, Tokyo is way too pretty to spend the whole time worrying about a scratched baseplate.
