Honestly so fed up with these cheap generic thumb grips for my M10. I bought one last month for a street photography trip to Chicago and the thing is so loose it keeps sliding out of the hot shoe every time I pull the camera out of my bag. It feels like absolute garbage and I'm worried it's actually gonna scratch the finish or something. I spent way too much on this body to be dealing with a wobbly piece of metal that doesnt even stay put.

I just want something solid that feels like it belongs on the camera and wont budge. Budget is flexible but I'd like to stay under $150 if possible. Does anyone have recommendations for high-quality thumb grips for the Leica M series that are actually worth the price?

Seriously check out the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX Brass Thumb Grip! Its super solid and wont budge at all. Honestly changed the game for my street shooting, youre gonna love it!

I went through three different brands before I realized why my M10 was feeling so clunky. Most generic grips use a standard 1.5mm rail thickness, but the Leica hot shoe has a very specific tensioning leaf that needs a precise fit to avoid that annoying wobble you're seeing. I actually ended up measuring the shoe depth with calipers because it was driving me crazy. I eventually bit the bullet on the Leica 24015 Thumb Support M10 Black Chrome. Here is what makes it worth the cash in my experience:

  • It has a high-density silicone pad on the contact point so it wont mar the paint finish.
  • The tolerances are machined to match the M10 hot shoe specs perfectly with no lateral play.
  • It actually feels like an extension of the body rather than an add-on. Another one I tested was the Haoge THB-M10B Metal Thumb Grip for Leica M10. While it is much cheaper, the machining was actually tighter than the generic brass ones I tried. Tbh though, if you have the budget, just get the official one and save yourself the headache of it falling out again while you're shooting.
