So I finally pulled the trigger on a silver X-T5 and it gets here Tuesday! Im super hyped to take it out for a street photography trip to Chicago next month but now Im spiraling a bit looking at all the extra stuff I might need. My budget for accessories is about 300 bucks right now. I spent a long time reading about the SmallRig baseplate because people say it helps with the grip but then I saw some forum posts saying it makes the camera too bulky and ruins the whole point of having a compact Fuji. I have pretty average sized hands so I dont know if its actually necessary? My logic was that it would protect the bottom but maybe a half case is better? Also the battery situation is confusing me lol. I read that the new W235 batteries last a while but should I stick to official Fuji ones or are the third party brands actually okay for the X-T5? Ive heard horror stories about them swelling and I definitely dont want that happening to a brand new camera. Oh and what about those thumb grips? I see everyone using them but I'm worried itll get in the way of the back dials when I'm trying to change settings fast on the fly. Basically just trying to figure out what is actually essential for day one and what is just hype...
@Reply #1 - good point! Sadly, generic batteries failed me.
Regarding what #2 said about generic batteries failing, totally agree! Try these instead:

ugh honestly i have this exact same issue... ive been dealing with this same dilemma for like three weeks now and i still havent bought anything because im so worried about making the wrong call. i keep looking at the third party brands versus the official fuji gear and the price difference is wild but then i feel like i have to be really careful since everyone warns about the bulk or the battery safety. it is so frustrating trying to figure out if the cheaper stuff is actually gonna hold up or if itll just end up making the camera feel cheap and clunky... still waiting for a clear answer just like you lol.
