just got an X-T5 for street stuff here in London. budget is tight after the lens purchase so im looking at the official Fuji grip vs the SmallRig cage for better handling. the Fuji one looks nicer but SmallRigs cheaper. which ones better for all-day shooting before my trip next week? or just skip both for extra batteries...

tbh i'd skip the big grips. the JJC TA-XT5 Thumbs Up Grip for Fujifilm X-T5 is a decent budget option that really helps one-handed street shots. maybe grab a Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap Black for the long walks too. check out fujixweekly for some film recipes to save time on post-processing. way more practical than a heavy cage for a trip.

Honestly, you might want to consider the ergonomics carefully before dropping cash. If youre doing street stuff in London, weight is gonna be your biggest enemy by the afternoon. I would suggest avoiding a full cage like the SmallRig Camera Cage for FUJIFILM X-T5 4135 because those sharp edges and extra bulk will just dig into your hands after three hours. Cages are really meant for video rigging, not all-day stills. The Fujifilm MHG-XT5 Metal Hand Grip is solid but the price is honestly kind of a rip-off. If you really need a better hold, look at the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5 4136. Its much cheaper and still gives you that Arca-Swiss plate for tripods. But more importantly, make sure to prioritize power. Be careful with those 40MP files because they eat through juice faster than you might expect if youre chimping your shots a lot. I wouldnt leave for a trip without at least one extra Fujifilm NP-W235 Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery. Also, since youre in the city, dont forget a screen protector. Ive seen too many people scratch their LCD on a jacket zipper or a bag strap. Grab something like the Expert Shield Screen Protector for Fujifilm X-T5 for peace of mind. Safety first, honestly. You dont want to be halfway through Soho and have a dead camera or a scratched screen.

Like someone mentioned, keeping the weight down is key for street stuff. I've been shooting Fuji since the early X-Pro days and nothing ruins a session faster than a heavy, clunky setup. If your budget is tight, skip the official grip and definitely skip the cage... those are for video rigs mostly. In my experience, you want something that makes the camera feel more tactile without adding bulk. I always throw on a VKO Wood Soft Release Button Dark Red because it gives you a much better feel for the shutter break. It's a cheap tweak and honestly makes the shooting experience way more fun during those long walks through London. Since you're on a tight budget, check your card speed too. The X-T5 files are massive and a slow card will bottleneck your street bursts. I've used the Lexar Professional 1667x 128GB SDXC UHS-II for a while now and it's plenty fast for those 40MP files without breaking the bank. Much better investment than a heavy cage that'll just sit in your drawer after a week.

ngl i have been shooting fuji for ages and over the years i have learned that reliability is the only thing that matters. i have seen so many cheap accessories fail when you need them most... it is honestly a nightmare. if you are on a tight budget, you really should just do your own deep dive elsewhere.

  • check the x-t5 threads on reddit
  • look at the dpreview forums for long-term usage notes
  • search youtube for street photography setups i saw a really solid video about this a few weeks back. cant remember the name but just search for xt5 street setup london and it is like the first result. it shows all the weight differences which is huge if you are walking all day... just go watch that and save yourself the headache.
