Trying to kit out my new X-T5 for a Tokyo trip but I'm honestly so annoyed. I read thumb grips are a must but then others say they block the dials so idk who to believe. I've only got $200 left.

  • Street photography use
  • Under $200 budget
  • Ergo improvements

What are the actual essentials...

To add to the point above: a Lensmate Soft Release Button Brass works well for better feel. Im satisfied with how it makes shooting more natural and its way under budget.

Unfortunately, thumb grips often block dials. I had issues with reliability, so I suggest the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5 4136 and a Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap Black.

Regarding what #2 said about the Lensmate soft release, I've used those on almost every Fuji I've owned over the years. They really do help with that tactile click feeling, especially for street stuff. But honestly, if you're heading to Tokyo with $200, you gotta be smart about where that money goes. In my experience, everyone obsesses over grips but forgets that Japan is basically one giant battery drain. I've spent 12-hour days wandering around Shibuya and nothing kills the vibe faster than a dead camera. Instead of overspending on aesthetics, get a Wasabi Power NP-W235 Battery 2-Pack and Dual USB Charger. It's a lifesaver and leaves you plenty of cash for actual food or more gear later. I'd also grab a ULBTER Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Fujifilm X-T5 3-Pack because those crowds are no joke and you'll definitely bump into someone on the subway. Quick question tho... what lens are you planning to use for most of the trip? Are you going with a big zoom or those tiny f/2 primes? Honestly, the weight of the glass totally changes whether you actually need a thumb grip or if it's just gonna get in the way. If your setup is light, you might be better off saving that cash for an extra SD card like the SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC UHS-I Card.
