I just picked up a silver X-T5 for my trip to Tokyo next Thursday and honestly my hand is already killing me after just a day of testing it out around the neighborhood. I have pretty big hands and the grip on this thing is way smaller than my old DSLR so I definitely need a thumb grip and a decent strap before I leave or I'm gonna be miserable.
I've been looking at a few options but the reviews are all over the place:
The Lensmate seems to be the gold standard but for sixty bucks thats a lot to spend if it messes up the ergonomics like some people say. For straps I really want something that stays secure but doesnt feel like a seatbelt around my neck all day while I'm doing street stuff. I am worried the Peak Design anchors are gonna dangle and get in the way of the flip screen too since I'll be doing a lot of low angle shots.
My budget is about 100 dollars total for both items and I need to be able to get them shipped to me in Chicago by Tuesday at the latest. Does anyone have a specific combo that works perfectly without blocking the buttons or feeling cheap? Are there any low profile brands I am missing that actually ship fast?...
Skip Gordys since their lead times are way too long for a Thursday trip. The Peak Design Leash Camera Strap 19mm Nylon is better than the Slide Lite because its only 19mm wide and low profile.
Like someone mentioned, that SmallRig L-bracket is pretty much mandatory if you dont want your pinky hanging off the bottom. I was honestly so disappointed with the stock ergonomics on this body when I first got mine... it feels like Fuji forgot people have actual hands sometimes. Tokyo involves a ton of walking and shooting, so you really dont want to be fighting the gear the whole time. I had major issues with those Peak Design anchors clanking against the body and scratching the finish on my silver model, which really sucked. If you want something that actually stays out of the way of the flip screen, check out the Simplr F1 Camera Strap Ultralight. Its way less bulky than the Slide Lite and actually ships fast. For the thumb grip, skip the cheap unbranded ones because they often sit crooked or loose. Since you need it in Chicago by Tuesday, the JJC TA-XT5 Thumb Up Grip Aluminum is probably your best middle ground even if it feels a bit more basic than the Lensmate. One quick tip tho... definitely grab a VKO Soft Release Button Red Brass. It sounds like a gimmick but it changes the finger angle just enough to stop that cramping in your palm when you are firing off shots all day. TL;DR: Grab the SmallRig L-grip for the hand fatigue and the Simplr F1 strap so you dont have seatbelt-sized webbing digging into your neck during your trip.
Honestly, for big hands, you gotta look at the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5! It makes a massive difference for comfort compared to just a thumb rest. It adds just enough depth to save your hand.
