So I just bought the Fuji X-S20 because everyone said it was the best for beginners but honestly I feel way over my head right now. Im leaving for a trip to Tokyo in like twelve days and I really wanted to document the whole thing for my family but every time I try to hold the camera out to film myself it just feels so clunky and I'm scared I'm gonna drop it. Plus I did a test video in my backyard and the wind made it sound like a hurricane so I clearly need some extra gear.

I was thinking about getting one of those little handles that turns into a tripod but I'm so confused about the brands. Like can I use a Sony grip on a Fuji camera or does it have to be the same brand? I saw a TG-BT1 online but it's kinda expensive and I don't even know if it's easy to set up. My logic was that if I have a handle with buttons I won't have to reach around and fumble with the camera body while I'm walking through crowded streets but I don't know if that's how it actually works...

Then there is the microphone situation which is even more overwhelming. I see people with those big fuzzy things on top and then some people have tiny little boxes clipped to their shirts. I have about $250 left in my budget after blowing most of it on the camera and lens so I need something that wont break the bank but also isn't cheap junk if that makes sense?

  • Do I need a special cable for the mic or does it just plug in?
  • Is there a grip that lets me zoom in without touching the lens?
  • Are there any specific ones that are plug and play because I really dont have time to learn complicated settings before I fly out.

I'm sorry if these are really basic questions I just dont want to buy the wrong thing and then be stuck in Japan with gear that doesn't even talk to each other. I'm super stressed about the timeline so any advice on what I should buy right now would be amazing...

^ This. Late to the party but I've been happy with the SmallRig Tripod with Wireless Remote Control for Fujifilm. It handles the weight easily. Bluetooth pairing is basically instant. For audio, the Hollyland Lark M1 Wireless Lavalier Microphone works well. It has a 650ft range. The frequency hopping tech keeps the signal clean. Just plug it into the 3.5mm jack... no complex settings needed. You wont have wind issues with a clip-on.

The X-S20 is a beast, but I get the stress. For the grip, grab the Fujifilm TG-BT1 Bluetooth Tripod Grip because Sony ones wont talk to your camera. For that wind noise, get a Rode VideoMicro II Ultracompact On-camera Shotgun Microphone.

  • Mic is plug-and-play, no batteries.
  • Zooming from the handle only works with Power Zoom lenses... This combo fits your budget and works basically instantly.
