Recommended batteries and external grips for the Fuji X-H2S?

Finally snagged an X-H2S for a wedding gig in Chicago next month and I am literally so hyped! Only thing is I'm realizing how fast this thing eats power. I was looking into the VG-XH vertical grip so I dont have to swap mid-vows but my budget is tight. I read that third party batteries like SmallRig are decent but then some threads say the camera doesnt recognize them right or they overheat during 4k which scares me. My logic was to buy the grip and cheap batteries but now I dont know if I should just stick to official Fuji stuff... does the grip actually improve the cooling or am I overthinking?

To add to the point above: skip the grip. In my experience, the Watson NP-W235 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack 2250mAh is much safer. I've tried many and they dont overheat like cheap ones.

> does the grip actually improve the cooling or am I overthinking? Honestly, you might want to consider sticking to the Fujifilm NP-W235 Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for a big wedding. Third party ones can be super flakey with the X-H2S firmware. The Fujifilm VG-XH Vertical Battery Grip for X-H2S does help slightly with heat since the batteries arent directly against the body, but dont expect miracles. I would suggest prioritizing official power so you dont get any weird lockups during the vows... that would be a nightmare.

  • Honestly, its amazing for handling tho for heat? Not so much! You're gonna want a clip-on cooling fan for long 4K shoots... Check out the testing on the Mirrorless Comparison site for fantastic data on thermal limits.
  • Careful with cheap power banks lacking Power Delivery.
  • Avoid batteries that dont communicate with firmware properly.
  • Keep that LCD flipped out for airflow! Youre gonna do amazing!
