To add to the point above: honestly, while speculating can be fun, I would suggest being careful about delaying your work for a camera that likely wont be here for a long time. I disagree with the idea that we need to wait for an X-T6... the current tech is already incredible. From a DIY perspective, I have always found it more cost-effective to just optimize a current body to fit your specific workflow. Quick tip: if you are worried about speed, make sure to use a high-speed card like the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II to maximize what the X-T5 can actually do. You might also want to consider the Fujifilm X-T5 Mirrorless Camera paired with a SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5 4136 if you need a better handle. Tbh, it is way better to have a solid tool in your bag today than wait for a rumor.

Like someone mentioned, getting caught up in the hype is an easy trap. In my experience, the biggest hurdle when jumping to a new generation like a potential X-T6 isnt the sensor—its the compatibility shift. Over the years, Ive seen too many people get frustrated when they realize their current setup needs a total overhaul just to support a new body. Quick tips for those thinking about the switch:

Why waiting for X-T6 ? Is X-T5 not good for you ? What do you want for X-T6 ?

Saved for later, ty!

I totally agree with ArcticShaderX about the compatibility shift. It is honestly such a headache. I remember when I jumped to a new body a while back and suddenly my favorite grips and plates were just expensive paperweights... it was so frustrating. Unfortunately, I have had issues with the newer Fuji builds feeling a bit more plasticky. They just were not as good as expected compared to the older models I loved. It kinda feels like the soul is being replaced by specs. Things that usually let me down:

  • Custom L-brackets never fitting the new dimensions
  • Software bugs that take months for them to patch out
  • The menus getting more cluttered instead of simpler If you are looking for something that just works without the gamble, honestly, just stick with the current flagship stuff from Sony. You cant go wrong with their ecosystem right now because everything is so standardized. Or honestly, just grab a higher-end body from Nikon if you want that tank-like feel again... they really seem to prioritize build quality over hype these days.

Honestly, I'd suggest being careful about getting caught up in the hype until we see actual sensor roadmaps from the manufacturer. The current cycle is still pretty fresh and jumping on rumors this early usually leads to disappointment. If you're looking for something to keep for five or six years, you might want to consider if current hardware actually bottlenecks your workflow right now or if you're just hunting for the next big thing. Before you commit to waiting, make sure to ask yourself:

  • What specific technical limitation are you hitting with the current bodies?
  • Are you looking for a higher resolution sensor or are you primarily waiting for better thermal management for long-form video? Speculating is fun but I've seen too many people delay their work for gear that ends up having a longer dev cycle than expected. I'd rather see what you actually need it to do first before assuming a future body is the answer... sometimes the glass matters way more than the body anyway.

Regarding what #10 said about "I totally agree with ArcticShaderX about the compatibility..." - it really is such a headache when you have to swap out everything just because the body dimensions changed by a few millimeters. Ive been through this cycle enough times to know that waiting for a perfect body like an X-T6 usually just means missing out on great shots today. In my experience, you're way better off sticking with the Fujifilm X-T5 Mirrorless Camera and putting that extra cash into glass thatll actually keep its value over the years. If the build feels a bit light or plasticky to you like people mentioned, I highly recommend adding the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5. It makes the whole thing feel way more solid in the hand, more like those older tanks we used to love. Honestly, pairing that with a lens like the Fujifilm XF 33mm f/1.4 R LM WR will give you a better experience than any spec bump on a camera that wont even be out for another 18 months... just get out there and start shooting.

Regarding what #1 said about "Maybe in late 2025." - that seems to be the general vibe here, tho honestly we're all just reading tea leaves at this point. Looking at what everyone's been saying, there are some big themes:

  • The risk of missing out on shots while waiting for a ghost.
  • Compatibility headaches with things like plates and grips.
  • Whether the current tech is already way past what most of us actually need. I would suggest being really careful about getting stuck in that "waiting for the next big thing" trap. It reminds me of my old roommate who spent nearly two years waiting for a specific sensor upgrade he saw in a rumor. He was so deep into the technical analysis and leaks that he actually sold his old kit to "prepare" for the new release. Then the manufacturer hit a massive delay and he was left without a working camera for his entire trip to Japan. He ended up taking all his vacation photos on a cheap flip phone from 2012... it was a total disaster. He still gets annoyed if anyone brings it up at dinner. Anyway, you might want to consider if you actually need the upgrade or if you're just bored with your current setup.

To add to the point above: honestly we are looking at 2026 at the earliest if Fuji keeps up this ridiculous pace! It drives me crazy how they keep us hanging while prices for even the older gear stay sky-high. Like, I love my Fuji stuff, it's amazing gear, but the way these companies launch incremental updates is such a scam sometimes! I've been an enthusiast for years and the build quality just feels like it's getting more fragile. You want something reliable that wont fail you in the field, but instead, we get hyped-up rumors for a body that probably wont even be out for another two years. It's totally exhausting trying to stay current when the tech feels like it's built to be replaced in five seconds. Honestly it's ridiculous how much we have to pay just for the chance at better weather sealing or a shutter that actually lasts! But hang in there, I'm totally here if you want to vent more about the gear struggle or need help figuring out which older models are the real tanks.

Too early for X-T6, it could be released in late 2025 to early 2026
