So I just got this fuji x-e4 and im super stressed because i leave for my trip to NYC in like four days. Ive never really used a real camera before besides my phone so im totally lost on what I actually need. People keep talking about thumb grips and filters and different straps but i dont even know if those are required or just for looks?
My budget is pretty tight like maybe $150 tops after buying the camera and I really dont want to miss any good shots because I forgot a tiny part. Sorry if this is a dumb question but what are the absolute must-have accessories for street photography specifically? Like what do I actually need to buy before I get on the plane...
Honestly, I am super satisfied with my X-E4 and you are gonna love it in NYC. The main thing is grabbing a spare Fujifilm NP-W126S Li-Ion Battery since the battery life isnt amazing for long days out. I also swear by the Haoge THB-X4B Thumb Grip for extra stability while walking around. Those plus a fast SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Card are really all you need. You are gonna have a blast.
Regarding what #1 said about being satisfied, I actually found the X-E4 ergonomics pretty disappointing for long street sessions without some serious help. It is way too slippery. Before I give my full list, are you using the Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR pancake or something heavier? The balance changes everything when you are walking 10 miles. I had issues with the generic straps that come in the box... they are basically garbage. You should compare the Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap Black with the Peak Design Leash Camera Strap Black. The Cuff is nice for stealth, but I honestly find it annoying for all-day carry. The Leash is better but feels slightly thin compared to their thicker versions tho it fits the X-E4 size better. Also, make sure you get a fast card. The SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC UHS-I V30 is the minimum. Avoid the Ultra series because the write speeds are just not as good as expected for burst shooting.
Re: Regarding what #1 said about being satisfied, I think protection is way more urgent! NYC is crowded and messy. Grab a B+W 39mm 010 UV Haze MRC Nano Filter to save your lens from grime and a ULBTER Fuji X-E4 Tempered Glass Screen Protector. I once bumped my camera into a steel pole and that protector saved everything! It is amazing peace of mind for the price. Have a blast!
