ugh i am honestly so fed up with how these companies sell you a "ready to go" camera that actually needs like ten other things just to function properly without breaking. i finally caved and bought the osmo pocket 3 for my big trip to tokyo which is literally this friday and now im panicking. i took it out to the park today just to test it out and man the battery died way faster than i thought it would and i nearly dropped the thing twice because the grip is so tiny and slippery. plus the screen... i am terrified of scratching that big beautiful screen since it just flips around and stays exposed and i dont even have a screen protector on it yet.

i already spent basically my whole savings on the camera itself so my budget is super tight now like maybe $100-150 left for extras which isnt much. i feel like i am drowning in amazon reviews and everyone is saying something different and its totally overwhelming. some people say you need nd filters for the cinematic look others say the battery handle is the only thing that matters but i dont know what to prioritize for a week of heavy walking and vlogging. i just want to be able to film without worrying it's gonna die or shatter on the pavement.

i really need a list of the absolute bare essentials that i can get delivered by thursday. like what is actually going to save me from ruining this $500 investment or running out of juice mid-day in shibuya? i am looking for stuff like:

  • something to protect the screen and lens because i am clumsy as heck
  • a way to keep it charged while im out all day without carrying a giant brick
  • maybe a better way to hold it or mount it so it doesnt slip out of my hand

is the expansion adapter worth it or is it just a piece of plastic? should i just get a cheap carry case? im just so stressed trying to get this sorted before my flight and i dont want to waste more money on junk that doesnt work... what do i actually need to survive this trip??

Saw your post earlier and wanted to weigh in because I have spent a lot of time shooting in Tokyo with various gimbals. In my experience, the most critical accessory for a trip like this is a high-quality wrist strap. Since you are worried about the camera being slippery, the Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap is basically a lifesaver. It uses a quick-connect system that keeps the device tethered to your arm. I have tried many different setups over the years, and a simple strap provides significantly more security in crowded areas like Shibuya than a standard grip. For the power issues, you do not necessarily need the official battery handle to get through a full day of vlogging. I usually carry a slim external battery that fits easily into a jacket pocket. The Anker 523 Power Bank PowerCore Slim 10K is very thin and can recharge the Pocket 3 multiple times. If you use a short USB-C cable, you can charge the unit while it is stored in your bag between locations. This is a much more versatile and budget-friendly way to manage your power needs than buying multiple proprietary accessories. To protect the screen and gimbal from damage, I suggest a rigid carrying case instead of the basic sleeve. The StartRC Osmo Pocket 3 Carrying Case Portable is an affordable option that offers much better impact protection. It is structured enough to prevent the screen from getting crushed or scratched when it is inside a crowded bag. Honestly, focusing on these three essentials will solve your biggest problems without exhausting your remaining budget before your flight on Friday.

> maybe a better way to hold it or mount it so it doesnt slip out of my hand I am a total nerd for build quality and the SmallRig Cage for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is incredible! It adds cold shoe mounts and makes the body feel way more rugged. Also, definitely snag a Samsung EVO Plus 256GB microSDXC V30 for those 130MB/s write speeds. Essential for high-bitrate 4K in Shibuya! Youll love the results!

> i already spent basically my whole savings on the camera itself so my budget is super tight now Oh man, you are gonna have an AMAZING time in Tokyo! Seriously, its the best place on earth for this camera. Dont freak out about the budget because you can totally get the essentials for way under $100. First thing, you MUST get amFilm Screen Protector Tempered Glass 2-Pack for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 like immediately. Its cheap and keeps that screen pristine while you're traveling. To fix the battery and the tiny grip at the same time, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Battery Handle 950mAh is the absolute goat. It makes the camera feel way more secure in your hand and basically doubles the filming time! If you still feel it slipping, grab the SmallRig Expansion Adapter for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 4363 and attach a simple wrist strap. It makes a world of difference when you are weaving through crowds in Shibuya! Have the best trip ever!!
