Trying to send my roommate a link to our dorm supplies in my Amazon cart. My logic was there would be a share button but I cant find it. I read about wish lists but some say they dont show quantities. Is there a way to just send the cart? We move in next Friday so Im in a rush...

^ This. Also, I actually have to disagree with the idea that wishlists are your best bet here. In my experience, wishlists are kinda clunky for dorm shopping because quantities get messed up and it's hard to see what's actually ready for checkout. I've tried many workarounds over the years, and the native Amazon options always seem to fall short when you're in a rush. Just to clarify what you're dealing with:

  • How many items are we talking about exactly?
  • Are you splitting the cost or is one person doing the full buy? Honestly, just use Cart To Link. I found it a while back and it's perfect for when I need to send a full list to my roommates without the headache of screen grabbing everything. It basically turns your cart into a shareable link that actually works. Much easier than fighting with Amazon's UI five days before move-in day, tho.

Using a dedicated cart transfer tool is the most efficient and professional way to resolve this before your deadline! I have used these methods for years to coordinate large orders and they are fantastic for ensuring accuracy. Basically, you have two main brands to look at:

  • Share-A-Cart: This service is excellent because it generates a unique code. Your roommate simply enters the code on their end and the entire cart populates instantly.
  • Shopping Cart Share: This is another solid option that generates a direct link. It works well but can sometimes be sensitive to different browser settings. I honestly recommend Share-A-Cart for dorm shopping because it handles item quantities much better than standard wishlists. You really dont want to be guessing how many towels or sheets you added when you are in a rush. Simply install the browser extension, generate your cart code, and text it to your roommate. It is gonna make your move next Friday so much easier!

Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.

@Reply #3 - good point! Wishlists are honestly a nightmare for syncing quantities in real-time. Ive seen them lag for hours which is a huge risk when you're moving in so soon. Since you're in a rush, I'd be super careful with third-party extensions too. They usually work but you're basically giving a random dev access to your cart data... might not be the vibe you want for your account security. I would suggest comparing these options for reliability:

  • Shared Registry: Way better than a wishlist because it actually handles quantities correctly, though it takes a minute to set up.
  • Browser extensions: Fast but kinda risky for privacy since they scrape your session.
  • Screenshots: Low tech but 100% reliable and wont glitch out on you. Just make sure to double check the subtotal before clicking pay because Amazon likes to sneak in those Subscribe and Save defaults sometimes... that can really mess up your budget if you arent looking.

Regarding what #2 said about "To add to the point above: honestly, it..." - ugh, I totally feel that frustration! I have been using Amazon for like a decade now and it blows my mind that we still dont have a native button for this. It is actually kind of amazing how such a massive company makes it so difficult to just collaborate on a simple list of dorm stuff! I remember doing this years ago and it was just as annoying then as it is now... honestly, I love the platform but this specific lack of a share feature is just the absolute worst when you are on a deadline!! Since you are moving in so soon, are you guys mostly looking at the big heavy furniture stuff that needs to be there day one or just the smaller desk accessories and room decor? Also, are you trying to split the payment at checkout or is one person just buying the whole lot for both of you?

Amazon technically wont let you share a live cart session because of how they handle server-side cookies and session-specific IDs tied to your account authentication. Basically, the URL in your browser is specific to your login state. If you try to copy the address bar link, it just redirects the other person to their own empty cart. Its a security measure to prevent session hijacking. I would suggest using the Collaborative Wish List or Registry feature instead. You might want to consider making it anyone with the link so your roommate can see it without needing special permissions. Make sure to toggle the setting that allows others to see the quantities youve set, otherwise it just defaults to one of each. Be careful tho, sometimes the list doesnt update in real time if you are both editing it simultaneously, which can lead to double-ordering. If you are in a rush for dorm stuff and need to verify the exact items and total price, just send a screenshot of the subtotal page for now. Sharing active browser sessions is messy and usually requires specialized scripts or extensions that handle the JSON export of the cart data. Just be sure not to share any URLs that contain your specific session tokens or account identifiers. Btw I started using Cart To Link and it makes it way easier to show people whats in my cart.

To add to the point above: honestly, it is such a headache when you are in a rush! I literally went through this exact same panic last year with my sister. We were trying to coordinate towels and bed risers and I couldnt find a share button anywhere... I was so stressed! Then I found this amazing tool called Amazon cart sharer and it totally saved my life. It is basically a browser extension that lets you send a link so they can see everything. Its fantastic because we could see exactly what was in there without the quantity weirdness that happens with regular lists. If you dont want to use a tool, just make a Shopping List instead of a Wish List. You can invite her as a collaborator so she can actually edit it and add her own stuff too! Love it for dorm shopping. TL;DR: Amazon doesnt have a share button, so use a collaborator Shopping List or Amazon cart sharer to get it done fast!
