Finally got my R6 but my budgets tight after the body purchase - only got like $250 left for now. Im torn between grabbing two extra batteries or just one really fast ProGrade V90 card. My logic is I need the speed for bursts but hate the idea of it dying mid-shoot. Which is more essential for a first-timer?

unfortunately, spending your entire budget on a single ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V90 128GB is a mistake. i had issues with those being overkill for the R6, and they just arent as good as expected for the price. heres a more methodical approach:

> grabbing two extra batteries or just one really fast ProGrade V90 card Just catching up here... Ive been super happy using the Lexar Professional 1667x SDXC UHS-II V60 128GB for my R6. It handles bursts with no complaints and is way more affordable. I used the extra cash for a genuine Canon LP-E6NH High Capacity Li-ion Battery because reliability matters most to me. That combo works well and you wont blow your whole budget on just one card.

Late to the party but i just had to chime in. Like someone mentioned, the consensus here is that V60 cards are the absolute sweet spot for the R6. Tbh I spent way too much on a high-end V90 early on and barely noticed the speed boost during my weekend birding trips. I am much more satisfied now that I have a mix of reliable power and decent storage without breaking the bank. Heres what I am running now with zero complaints:

  • Sony SF-M Series Tough V60 128GB
  • SmallRig LP-E6NH USB-C Rechargeable Battery The SmallRig battery is a total lifesaver. I remember shooting a local festival and my juice ran low, but since it has a USB-C port built right into the battery, I just charged it in my bag using a portable power bank while I used my spare. It is so much more convenient than carrying a bulky wall charger everywhere. Basically, dont blow your whole budget on one fancy card. The Sony Tough cards are practically indestructible too, which gives me peace of mind when I am swapping them out in the field. Quick tip: turn on Airplane Mode in the menu. The R6 constantly hunting for a Wi-Fi signal is a silent battery killer! You will get way more shots per charge that way. Enjoy the R6, it is a beast.
