What should I prioritize for my R5 travel setup before I leave for Iceland in two weeks? Im freaking out a bit because the battery life on this thing is kinda scaring me for long days out in the cold. I cant decide if I should just bite the bullet and get the official Canon BG-R10 battery grip even though its bulky or if I should just stick to like 3 extra LP-E6NH batteries and a fast SmallRig dual charger to save space. My budget is capped at like 400 dollars for extra accessories and my carry-on is already basically full so the grip might be too much but I hate swapping batteries in the wind. Which one would you go for?

Regarding what #2 said about "Re: "Using a grip in Iceland might be..." - totally agree. Its basically dead weight. Saw this earlier but just now responding... since youre worried about the wind, pick up a Peak Design Shell Camera Cover Large to keep the body dry during swaps. Also, the Satechi 72W Type-C PD Car Charger is essential for topping off the R5 while driving between stops. TL;DR: Skip the grip, buy weather protection and car charging.

Using a grip in Iceland might be risky since it adds bulk and points for moisture to get in. I would suggest keeping things simple. From my experience:

  • Just get several extra batteries from Canon, you cant go wrong there.
  • Get a charger from SmallRig to keep in your bag. Make sure to keep spares in your jacket pocket so they stay warm... cold really kills them fast.
