i just got this r5 a few months ago and while the video quality is insane the audio situation is driving me absolutely crazy. i have been using this cheapo takstar mic i found on amazon and honestly the hiss is just unbearable like it completely ruined the footage from my sisters graduation party last weekend and im just so done with it. i am actually really excited to finally upgrade though because i have a big travel vlog coming up in italy next month and i cannot afford to have crappy sound again. i need something that actually works with the r5 preamps without sounding like a wind tunnel or a beehive. ive got about 350 bucks maybe 400 if its really worth it but i am just so tired of fiddling with settings in post trying to clean up noise that shouldnt be there in the first place. is the rode videomic ntg actually good or is it just hype? or maybe the sennheiser mke 600? i just want something reliable that wont pick up every single click of the autofocus motor too because thats another thing driving me nuts right now. what are you guys using that actually sounds professional on this body? im looking for something that is easy to mount and wont fail me when im out in the field...

@Reply #1 - good point! If you want to kill that hiss and autofocus noise for your Italy trip, go wireless to keep the mic off the body entirely!

  • DJI Mic 2 2TX+1RX Wireless Microphone System is amazing because of the 32-bit float internal recording!
  • Keep your R5 gain at 1 or 2 clicks and let the external preamps do the work.
  • Total silence from the lens motors and way more flexibility for vlogging!
