Ive been shooting with my old Lowepro for like eight years now but I finally treated myself to the RF 70-200mm f/2.8 and honestly it just doesnt fit right with my R5 body attached. Im so hyped for my Yosemite trip next month but Im realizing my current setup is way too cramped for a long hike.
I need something that can handle:
Ive got about $300 to drop so I want something that wont kill my back. What are you guys using for your heavy Canon glass lately? Is the Peak Design stuff actually worth the hype or should I stick to something more traditional like Think Tank...
Been really satisfied with the Think Tank StreetWalker Pro V2.0 16.5L Backpack for that specific kit. It fits the R5 and mounted 70-200 plus your other glass easily while staying well under your $300 limit. The technical harness works well for weight distribution on trails, and the tripod attachment is super solid. Its basically a way better value than the hype brands for actual hiking imo. No complaints at all.
Just catching up on this thread. Unfortunately, my last bag's zippers failed mid-hike in the rain, which was a total nightmare. Switched to the MindShift BackLight 26L Photo Daypack and its way more reliable for heavy glass like that 70-200. It keeps the weight off your shoulders. Definitely check out the reviews on Shotkit for the weight distribution specs before you buy.
Unfortunately, the Peak Design gear didnt live up to the hype. The straps on the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L V2 are way too thin for an R5 and that heavy 70-200. It lacks the support needed for Yosemite. I suggest these alternatives:
