so im finally taking my fuji x-t30 ii on a trip to nyc next month and im strictly looking at tamron glass because i like their zoom rings better than fujis for some reason... dont ask lol. im torn between the 17-70mm f/2.8 and the 11-20mm f/2.8.

the 17-70 has stabilization which is huge for me since my camera doesnt have ibis but man that thing looks long.

  • budget: under $750 used or new
  • weight: light enough for 10 miles of walking
  • aperture: gotta be f2.8 for those evening shots

which one would you go with for crowded streets? or is there another tamron fuji mount i missed that works better...

Since your X-T30 II lacks IBIS, you might want to be careful with the 11-20mm. NYC gets dark fast between skyscrapers, so I would suggest the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD.

  • VC is vital for evening shots
  • Range is way better for candid portraits
  • Fits your budget used It is definitely chunky on that small body, but the stabilization makes it way more versatile... honestly wouldnt risk blurry shots without it.

Late to the party here but definitely be careful with the weight. The Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is awesome but its kinda a brick on the X-T30 II.

  • Check out MPB or KEH for a used copy to stay way under budget
  • Snag a grip extension so your hand doesnt cramp up
  • Rent it via Lensrentals first if youre worried about those 10-mile walks... nyc is brutal!

To add to the point above: that VC is basically magic on the X-T30 II! I took the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD for Fujifilm X to a dim jazz club and pulled off 1/10s handheld shots... insane tech!

  • 25.5-105mm equivalent range covers everything
  • constant f2.8 aperture is huge for evening bokeh
  • check MPB or KEH to save like $160 Ngl, saving cash for NYC pizza is always the move tho! You wont regret the extra reach.
