Which compact flash should I buy for a Sony a6400?

i am honestly spiraling a bit trying to pick a compact flash for my a6400 and i need to make a decision like yesterday because my flight to japan is in less than two weeks. i really want something small because the whole reason i got the a6400 was to keep things light while hiking and walking around cities so putting a massive speedlight on top just feels wrong. plus i dont want it to be top heavy and constantly tipping over when i put it down on a table.

so i was thinking about the Godox TT350S. its super popular and cheap which is great because i only have about $150 maybe $200 max to spend on this right now before i leave. my logic was that the godox is small enough to fit in my jacket pocket and it takes AA batteries which are easy to find anywhere. but i keep seeing people in forums saying the build quality is kinda hit or miss and that the hot shoe is made of plastic so it might snap if i bump into something. i dont want to be in the middle of a crowded street in shinjuku and have my gear literally break in half.

then i looked at the Sony HVL-F28RM. it looks so much more professional and the build quality seems way better plus it has that metal shoe. it would fit the camera perfectly but god it is so expensive for what it is. it's like $250 which would totally blow my budget and mean i have to skip a couple of nice dinners in kyoto. i also saw the Meike MK-320 mentioned a few times as a super budget option but i worry the recycle time is gonna be way too slow and i’ll miss shots while waiting for the beep.

im really torn between the reliability of the sony and the price of the godox. is the sony name actually worth that huge price jump or am i just paying for the logo? i just want something that wont fail on me while im halfway across the world...

Yo! You are gonna have the best time in Japan! I totally get the anxiety about gear breaking, but honestly, I've dragged my Godox TT350S Mini Thinklite TTL Flash through rain and crowded subways in Osaka without a single issue! The plastic shoe concern is a bit overblown unless you are literally swinging your camera around by the flash. I love this little unit because the Guide Number of 36 is actually pretty punchy for such a tiny frame. Here is why the Godox wins for me:

  • Recycle time is roughly 0.1 to 2.2 seconds which is way faster than the Meike.
  • Full TTL and HSS support means you can shoot wide open in daylight for that sweet bokeh.
  • It weighs like 200g so your a6400 stays perfectly balanced. I actually upgraded to the Godox V350S Li-ion Battery Mini Flash recently because the lithium battery is a game changer for travel. You get 500 full-power flashes on one charge! No more carrying extra AAs in your pockets. If you can stretch the budget just a tiny bit, the V350S is absolutely fantastic for street photography. Don't waste the money on the Sony name tag; save those yen for some legendary ramen in Shinjuku instead! The Godox system is amazing because if you ever want to get into off-camera lighting, you already have the 2.4G transmitter built-in. It's basically the smartest move for an a6400 setup.

Regarding what #1 said, unfortunately my Godox broke so fast.

Stumbled upon this because I'm literally in the same boat right now. The gear spiral is real lol. I'm also terrified of that plastic shoe snapping in a crowd. Looking at the Nissin i40 Compact Flash for Sony lately as a compromise. It has a metal shoe and it's super tiny for travel. Usually goes for around $150 so it hits a decent price point... dont want it feeling like a toy.
