What are the must-have accessories for the Sigma fp?

So I finally pulled the trigger on the Sigma fp after staring at it for like a year. Honestly, coming from a D850, the size is just mind-blowing, but I think I’ve run into that classic modular trap where the camera is almost too small to actually use out of the box. Im planning a three-week trip to Tokyo next month for some street photography and a bit of video, and I'm starting to realize my current setup is basically just a sensor with a lens attached. I spent about $1500 on the body and lens so I’ve got maybe $600 left in the budget to get this thing rig-ready before I fly out.

The ergonomics are the first big hurdle. I have pretty large hands and right now my pinky is just dangling in space which makes me feel like I’m gonna drop it every time I swap lenses. I was looking at those SmallRig cages versus the official Sigma handgrips, but I cant decide if the cage is overkill for street stuff. Also the battery life is... well, its not great. I was out testing it in the drizzle here in Seattle yesterday and it felt like the percentage was dropping every time I blinked. I definitely need a power solution that doesnt make it look like a science project or weigh five pounds.

I’m also really curious about the SSD situation. I want to shoot some 12-bit CinemaDNG but the cables look so clunky hanging off the side. Is there a specific bracket or a tiny SSD that everyone is using these days? I dont want to turn this tiny beautiful thing into a giant monster, but I need it to be functional for 8-hour days of walking around a city.

  • grip or cage suggestions that keep it low profile
  • battery workarounds (dummy batteries or just buying 10 spares?)
  • best way to mount an SSD without it being a mess
  • any viewfinders that aren't that massive loupe?

What are you guys actually using day-to-day that you'd consider a must-have for this specific body?

I stumbled on this while prepping for a trip myself. Honestly, coming from a bigger DSLR, the fp feels like a toy until you drop it... then it's a very expensive paperweight. I'm always kinda paranoid about gear failure or cables snapping, so I've settled on a setup that's reliable but simple for street stuff. In my experience, you should grab the SmallRig Cage for Sigma fp Series 3211. It gives you a proper handle for your pinky without looking like you're carrying a full cinema rig. For the SSD, the Samsung T7 Shield 2TB Portable SSD is rugged for travel and handles the 12-bit data rates fine. I mount mine with the SmallRig Universal Holder for External SSD BSH2343 and use a short 90-degree cable so nothing snags on your jacket while you're walking around Shinjuku. Battery-wise, dont overcomplicate it with power banks. I just carry four Sigma BP-51 Li-ion Battery spares in a small pouch. It's safer than a dummy battery setup that might fail or short out your port. Since you hate the loupe, the SmallRig Sun Hood for Sigma fp VH2505 is a cheap, lightweight fix for the screen glare.

Honestly, the ergonomics are a total letdown. I really struggled until I grabbed these bits:
