What are the absolute must-have accessories for the Sigma fp because I just bought one and I'm honestly kind of panicking about how to actually make it usable. I've been reading a ton of threads and I'm just getting more stressed out. Some people say you 100% need a cage like the SmallRig one to even hold it properly without dropping it but then others argue that the whole point is the small form factor so putting a cage on it just ruins the whole vibe and I should just get the official bolt-on handgrip instead. I'm also really confused about the storage stuff because I read that internal SD cards are basically useless for 12-bit raw video but do I really want a huge Samsung SSD hanging off the side of this tiny thing??

I'm supposed to be heading to Oregon next month to help a buddy shoot a wedding and my budget is super tight now that I've actually bought the camera body so I really cant afford to buy things I dont actually need right away. I'm mainly gonna be doing handheld street shots and some b-roll for him. Is the electronic viewfinder (EVF-11) worth the crazy price tag or can I get by with the screen even in daylight? I'm worried about the battery life too because everyone says it sucks but how many spares do I actually need for a full day of shooting... it's all starting to feel like a money pit honestly.

> I'm also really confused about the storage stuff because I read that internal SD cards are basically useless for 12-bit raw video I would suggest being very careful with your storage setup. For 12-bit CinemaDNG, internal cards usually drop frames, so you might want to consider the Samsung T5 500GB Portable SSD with a simple clamp. It keeps the rig small. Also, make sure to pack at least four Sigma BP-51 Li-ion Battery spares. The power drain is real, so dont risk it during a wedding shoot.

Quick reply while I have a sec because I went through this exact panic last summer shooting a bright outdoor wedding. Honestly, be careful with that screen... in direct sun it basically becomes a mirror and you'll miss focus constantly. I ended up biting the bullet on the Sigma EVF-11 Electronic Viewfinder and while it hurt the wallet, it totally saved the shoot. A couple things to consider for your budget:

  • Ergonomics are tricky. I tried the Sigma HG-11 Hand Grip first but my hand cramped up during street shots. I eventually switched to the SmallRig Cage for Sigma FP/FP L 2224B because it gives you mounting points for the SSD.
  • For power, maybe grab the Wasabi Power Battery 2-Pack for Sigma BP-51 instead of the expensive official ones. Carry at least five if you're doing a full day. Just curious tho, what lenses are you planning to take? If you're rocking heavy glass, that cage is basically mandatory for balance.

Ngl, the CinemaDNG data rates on this body are a total headache. Its basically impossible to maintain stable 12-bit write speeds internally without dropped frames. I hate how a compact camera requires a mess of cables and external drives just to function properly.

  • Micro HDMI port is incredibly fragile; any minor bump will kill the connection.
  • Watch for thermal throttling during high-bitrate recording sessions. Managing these technical specs is honestly exhausting and it turns into a money pit fast.
