sorry if this is a dumb question but i just got a sigma fp and i have no idea where to start with cages. i need to attach a mic and maybe a handle for my trip to Japan next month.

  • budget is like $80-100
  • needs to be small
  • easy to setup

any brands that are good for a total beginner?

I love the SmallRig Cage for Sigma fp Series 2518! Its fantastic and super secure.

  • use both mounting points
  • check the side screws Its totally amazing and reliable!

I saw this thread earlier and honestly, looking for fp cages is kind of a headache now. I have been doing this for years and its annoying how the prices for simple metal frames keep creeping up while the quality stays the same. Most of these budget options are just okay, nothing spectacular. To add to the point above: you need to watch your total spend. If you drop $80 on the cage alone, you wont have anything left for a decent handle or a cold shoe mount for that mic. It is frustrating when budget setups end up costing way more than planned because of all the little extras.

  • Nitze Sigma fp Camera Cage TP-SIGMAFP
  • This is probably the best value right now, though the finish feels a bit rough compared to high-end stuff.
  • Niceyrig Sigma fp Camera Cage Aluminum Alloy
  • Very basic and affordable. I found the mounting screws they include are kinda cheap, so dont over-tighten them.
  • SmallRig Top Handle with Cold Shoe 1638
  • Pair this with a cheap cage to stay under your $100 limit. Unfortunately, some of these cheaper ones dont have the best tolerances. I had issues with the Nitze one being a bit tight around the battery door on my unit, which is a real bummer when you are trying to swap cells quickly on the move. Basically, just buy something functional and dont overthink the pro features. Japan is gonna be incredible, but seriously, keep the weight down. Lugging a bulky rig around Tokyo all day is not as fun as it sounds... the fp is supposed to be small, dont let a heavy cage ruin that vibe.

im literally obsessed with my fp and spent ages looking for the perfect cage for travel! if you want something that feels super premium you have to look at the Kondor Blue Sigma fp Cage. honestly it is amazing. the build quality is top tier and the raven black finish matches the camera perfectly... it even has a built-in spirit level which is basically a lifesaver. i love it because it feels so solid and pro. if you want to save some cash for your trip tho the CAMVATE Sigma fp Camera Cage is a fantastic alternative. its super direct and way lighter which is a huge plus when youre walking around cities all day. its not as flashy as the kondor blue but it gets the job done for mounting a mic and handle without any fuss. the kondor is my favorite for the vibe but the camvate is way better on the wallet! japan is gonna be so sick for shooting... have fun!
