Im kinda panicking because I have a wedding shoot in Philly next Saturday and my S1H rig is way too heavy for my old setup.
Torn between the Manfrotto 504X and Benro S8Pro. My logic was Manfrotto is safer but Benro fits my $500 budget better... which one actually holds up under pressure?
How heavy is the rig exactly? If its massive, check the SmallRig AD-100 FreeBlazer Heavy-Duty Video Tripod for the 22lb payload. Pro tip: 75mm bowls are life-savers for quick leveling.
TL;DR: In my experience, the Manfrotto handles the weight of heavy rigs way better because of the counterbalance settings. Oh man, I totally feel your pain! I remember my first big wedding with a heavy Panasonic rig and my old tripod was literally screaming for mercy lol. It was a total nightmare. Honestly, the biggest mistake people make is looking at the weight capacity and thinking if they are under it, they are safe. Wrong! You gotta look at the counterbalance. If you dont have a head that can actually push back against the weight of that S1H, your pans are gonna look super jerky and you will be fighting the camera the whole time. I love the Benro stuff because it is fantastic for the price, but for a high-stakes wedding in Philly? The Manfrotto is like a tank. It is so much more reliable when you are moving fast. Just a huge warning tho: watch out for the tripod legs that dont have a solid spreader. If you are on a slippery floor at a reception and those legs start to splay out, your heart will sink. I have seen it happen and it is terrifying! Stick with the one that feels more robust even if it hurts the wallet a bit. It is way better than a broken camera.
