Which mic should I grab for my GH5 because I'm honestly freaking out about this wedding I'm filming next week? I'm stuck between the Rode VideoMic Pro+ and the Sennheiser MKE 600. The Rode seems super easy to just slide on and go but people keep saying the MKE 600 sounds way more professional even though I'd need that chunky XLR adapter or a weird cable to make it work. I only have like 400 bucks left in my budget and the venue has these crazy high ceilings so the echo is gonna be a nightmare. I need to decide tonight so I can get it shipped to Chicago in time... which one is actually gonna save my life here?
Are you miking the groom? Im so happy with the Tascam DR-10L Digital Audio Recorder with Lavalier, it works well for vows and basically kills the room echo for cheap.
Honestly, I was disappointed with the Rode VideoMic Pro+ On-Camera Shotgun Microphone for big rooms. It picks up way too much echo. You gotta go with the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Sennheiser+MKE+600+Shotgun+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone. Just get a cheap 3.5mm to XLR cable to save cash. Its way more directional and handles those high ceilings way better than the Rode ever could. The Rode feels kinda like a toy tbh.
^ This. Also, I think you'll be more satisfied with the XLR option, though I'm not 100% sure about how it balances on a GH5. Someone told me it handles those high ceilings much better than the standard on-camera mics.
