What are the absolute must-have accessories for the Lumix GH6 because I just pulled the trigger on the body and I have a huge wedding shoot next Saturday and I'm honestly panicking a little bit lol. I spent most of my budget on the camera itself and now I'm looking at media and power and it's getting expensive fast.

I'm torn between two ways of doing this. First, for storage, should I just get one big 512GB Lexar CFexpress Type B card or am I better off getting like three ProGrade V90 SD cards? I know the CFexpress is faster for the high bitrate stuff but the SD cards are way cheaper and I can swap them out easier if one fails... plus I already have a reader for SD. Then there's the battery situation because I hear this thing eats power like crazy. Should I go with a SmallRig V-mount plate and a mini battery or just buy 4 of the official Panasonic batteries? The v-mount seems more professional but it adds so much weight to the rig and I'm gonna be running around all day.

I've got about 400 bucks left in the budget for this stuff and I need to order by tomorrow if I want it here in time for the rehearsal. Which way should I lean if I want to keep the setup light but reliable?

Saw this earlier but just now getting a chance to chime in. I've tried many setups for weddings over the years and honestly, light is right for an 8-hour day. Don't let the panic get to you, the GH6 is a beast once it's dialed in.

  • Storage: Skip the Lexar and grab the Angelbird AV PRO CFexpress B SE 512GB. In my experience, it's the best value card that actually handles the high bitrates without overheating. V90 SD cards are fine for backup, but they're surprisingly fragile compared to the metal CFexpress casing and you'll really want that extra speed for the high-end 5.7K modes.
  • Power: Go with three of the Panasonic DMW-BLK22 Lithium-Ion Battery official packs. V-mounts are cool for studio work but a total pain when you're weaving through guests during a cocktail hour. Three batteries plus the one that came with the camera should get you through the day if you're smart about powering down between setups. This combo keeps you right around that 400 dollar budget while keeping your rig nimble for the rehearsal.

OMG congrats on the GH6! You are gonna love it so much! I remember my first big gig with it, I was literally shaking but the IBIS saved my life haha. Honestly, weddings are a marathon so stay light! I tried the whole V-mount thing once and my back was screaming by the reception... it was brutal. Definitely go with extra batteries instead to keep the weight down. For storage, you definitely want that CFexpress speed for the 5.7K stuff, its amazing tho! Heres what I would grab to stay under that 400 buck limit:

To add to the point above: i managed to stay under budget for my own wedding kit and it works well without the heavy v-mount rig. To keep things light and reliable for next Saturday, here is what i would do.

  • Storage: skip the expensive brands and grab the Sabrent Rocket CFX 512GB CFexpress Type B. i have been very satisfied with its performance in the gh6 especially for high bitrate stuff. it is usually priced better than the lexar cards and hasnt let me down during long shoots.
  • Power DIY: since you want to stay light, just get a high-capacity power bank. i use the Baseus 65W 20000mAh Power Bank tucked into a small pouch on my belt or even a pocket. you can run a usb-c cable straight to the gh6 and it will power the camera basically all day. it is way cheaper than buying four official batteries and keeps the camera weight low for handheld work.
  • Backup: if you still have a few bucks left, get a Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB SDXC V90 for your second slot. it is a solid card for the price if you need a backup while shooting. this setup is simple and wont break your back during an 8-hour wedding day. good luck with the shoot!

I've been really satisfied with the SD card route for weddings since ProRes is usually overkill for a long day. It keeps things affordable. Before you buy though, are you planning to shoot in ProRes or just the standard 10-bit h.265? Also, are you mostly handheld or using a gimbal? That weight really adds up fast when you're running around all day.

Saw this and wanted to jump in because I've had some really frustrating issues with media reliability on this body. Unfortunately, sticking with just SD cards for a high-stakes wedding is a recipe for disaster if you're hitting the higher bitrates. I had a V90 card throw a write error during a processional once and it was basically my worst nightmare. It's just not as stable as the CFexpress bus for sustained recording. Even the battery situation is disappointing... the internal ones drain way faster than the specs suggest when you're using the tilt screen and high-res EVF constantly. Are you actually planning to shoot in ProRes for the whole day or just for the highlights? Also, how many hours of actual rolling time do you expect for the ceremony and speeches combined?

hey, just saw this and wanted to chime in before your deadline. honestly i would be real careful with the sd card route if youre shooting 10-bit or 5.7k... even the best v90 cards can struggle with the gh6's sustained write speeds. i would suggest the Angelbird AV PRO CFexpress B SE 512GB instead because it handles heat much better than the lexar cards you mentioned. for power, carrying a v-mount all day is basically a gym workout you didnt ask for. i'd stick with internal batteries but maybe look at the SmallRig DMW-BLK22 Camera Battery 2-Pack with USB-C Charging Port. they are reliable and you can literally charge them with a power bank during your lunch break. just make sure you check the firmware compatibility before the wedding because this body can be picky with non-panasonic batteries sometimes. you got this tho, the ibis on that thing is insane for handheld wedding shots.

^ This. Also, I have been using the GH6 since it launched and it is an amazing machine! I remember my first 10-hour wedding shoot with it. I tried to be all pro with a huge external battery and a cage. Honestly, it was a total nightmare. By the cake cutting, my arms were dead and I was struggling to keep the shots steady even with that fantastic IBIS. I learned some hard lessons that day:

  • A heavy rig is your worst enemy during an 8-hour day. I ended up stripping the camera down to the bare body just to survive the dance floor.
  • Swapping small batteries is way easier than managing cables that can snag on your gear.
  • Fast media is non-negotiable. I had a cheap card glitch during a toast once and I still have nightmares about it... basically never again. Seriously, you are gonna love the results! Just keep it simple and focus on the moments. You got this!
